.link sales report

I have not found it using the search option so I thought its time to start such a thread.
I'm a big fan of .LINK domains though I was very sceptical to the so called new TLDs.
The reason why I like .LINK though no fan of the new TLDs are:

  • "link" has a natural universal relation to Internet. We use sentences like "send me the link". You can combine it with every keyword. And its logical - a link to the keyword.
  • it's very easy to remember. Its also new so it sounds interesting. It's just sexy ;)
  • in my opinion it sounds better than "web" as long you are not some working in the web industry
  • the word has got common in other languages. In Polish we also say link, in German too. Though for some languages it sounds better than others. For example in general german domains with a keyword and .link sound more natural and nicer than in Polish.
So far I have bought some. Maybe my best is notebooks.link. But jet sold none. Since the domain is at start I was interested in the sales. I really think .link will happen to be a big thing.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I agree....that would really be STUPID :xf.wink: .....both link and linked are keywords:xf.eek:
No, "link" isn't a keyword of "LinkedIn".

The words in their brand name are exclusively as follows:

- Linked
- In

In that sense, "link" hasn't "served them well".

This is some really bad reasoning to rationalize some really bad potential investments in a really bad extension.

I've never seen a .link site, never seen a link to a .link site, never even heard of a .link site being developed or sold. I can't even find a way to search for .link reported sales on a place like namebio - which has a lot of rarely used extensions as possible search options.

People don't think of .com as standing for commercial. They think of it as being THE internet, especially in countries without widespread ccTLD usage.

If someone ever sees a .link site, they're going to think "Did someone make a typo and include the word link instead of putting the actual link there?"

.LINK has potential. I prefer a domain like Cars.link over something like BestCheapCarsOhio5.com but of course its everybodys choice. I'm no domainer, more end-user who happened to make some nice domain deals.

That is just a false choice. You are comparing a top term in .Link to an awful hand reg in .COM.

First of all any term like "Cars" in .link will never be a hand reg. It will come with a premium price and/or premium renewals.

If you are considering the option of a paying a premium price then you can do a lot better in .COM than BestCheapCarsOhio5.com.

I don't really want to offend anyone, but when i see a enthusiastic post about these new gTLDs ... i don't know, it looks a little creepy to me.
How can someone believe .link will be a "king" , or even a good investment? ... It's like gambling, i totally agree with this definition i read here very often.

HOWEVER there are several "enthusiastic" domainers, then some quickly profitable flips are possible if you were fast enough to register strong (and related) keywords, but we're talking about small ROI imho.

The thing that really really really annoys me about these new gTLDs is that they have the cheek to hold back all of the decent domains. If they have to release them in this way to make it commercially viable, then they should be looking at a different model.

It seems as if they don't act for the "good of the internet" anymore, they act just to maximise profits for whoever.

It makes me sick.

I reckon .site would be better than .link or .web, at least it's explanitory

well, there have been days when people would laugh about the concept of a PC. Specialists told the world in future there will be need for maybe 500 computers in the world.

Well, the comparison doesn't really work.
We're not talking about a new and innovative technology, but about a new extension among hundreds of new useless ones. And it's not innovative at all.

The right comparison, for me, would be thinking the .com (and .net/.org i.e.) as a normal, common, powerful notebook Personal Computer (PC), and the .link as a PC variation, that uses 32 alkaline AA batteries and is made by wood. Who knows, maybe people would prefer using 32 alkaline AA batteries instead of lithium one, and would like the wood case, but it's common sense considering this one as a strange, weird and peculiar PC variation.

I reckon I'd register ModelCars.me cause that's available, especially as it's a blog.

I didn't see it until now, but for me the case for .LINK is now crystal clear. You sir, have convinced me!

I think I'm going to delete Cheeky.me and register Cheeky.link and get developing right away.

After all, I want to jump a step ahead.

It seems .LINK is ignored from many domainers (not only on NP) because the owner of the company behind has reserved most of the cool names for himself through a third company? Or did I get something wrong? Well IMHO any interest conflicts are not good and should be avoided as far possible. But this does not change the fact that a concept for a new most generic new TLD can be good.

Also not all cool words were taken. I regged "notebooks", "phablets" etc. Surely would get even more if I were faster.

It's ignored because .link is just a bad extension, hence the low reg numbers. Just not much interest.

These new gTLD's will all suffer from the same problem: Low development numbers will lead to low mindshare with the public, which makes your new keyword.whatever domain look like a typo on the screen or on a billboard instead of making people think it's a URL they should go to.

I totally disagree with this quote, JMO. It's like saying beeper's are fine who needs a cell phone, or call me by a land line I don't need e-mail and why do I need to upgrade my cell phone or computer. It's old school and the new extensions will prosper, maybe not all but many will.

Even the ones that aren't as popular people will learn to pay attention to the extension more so in the future.

Sure this isn't an overnight thing therefore your new extension investment may not be in demand or valued high at this time but it is a term investment.

Internet users will in FACT learn that there's more than just com, net, org and will simply pay more attention to what URL they need to head too.

By saying these new extensions can't be figured out by the end user is basically saying they're stupid and I'm pretty sure most are not.

I don't own a .link but I'm going to see what I can find. :)

Slight thread /derail, sorry.

So let me get this right:
.com = beepers
.link = cell phones

Horrible.

.link isn't some new technology, it's just another bad extension.

Like I said JMO, but the good thing is we can all look back to replies such as this and time will tell.

I knew there were some weird and wonderful extensions out there, but .XYZ seriously takes the biscuit.

.LINK really is a king of gTLDs compared to that imho

You've downed all new extensions therefore your time machine can tell. Maybe so, maybe not.

Not all new extensions. There are some specific ones that may have a long life for words on the left side of the dot that match the extension on the right. But those will depend on development in order to spread awareness to the public. You're not going to do well with notebooks.condos, but you could do well with miami.condos - but the problem once again is that most of the better domains were either held back, taken before launch, or come with a premium rate that make them not so attractive for speculation.

When it comes to all the very generic ones like .link and .xyz, you have to consider all the existing tld's out there and then add in all the new gtld's that are either scheduled to launch, proposed, or may be proposed in the coming years. They want THOUSANDS of these gTLD's because they see even more money than you do in them. All of that is going to dilute the value of whatever gTLD you're gambling on, while good .coms will remain good .coms.

How many thousands have you an ICANN discussed within your quote? If it's THOUSANDS then maybe everyone should run! :)

Try reading some of the domain news sites.

You know the expression "if you can't spot the chump at the poker table..."?

If you can't spot the chumps in the new gTLD hype, well...

This is, hands down, one of the weirdest threads on namepros.
The whole thing seems like a giant wind up with people not getting the satire.. but I'm not sure that it is a wind up.
This has become an interesting thread I agree, I have had to go back a couple times and reread, did he mean that ?

Look its fine to like what you like, what you are spending on .link regs is hopefully money you can afford to lose, if new gtld regs are instead of going to Vegas or playing online poker if legal where you reside, or if it is a fun account you have with some excess cash then great. If this is money you need to retire or pay the mortgage, put the mouse down and step away from the keyboard.

The new gtlds were really not set up for domain investor speculation, they were ICANN's answer to go around that and put the money straight in their pocket and the registries.

Considering that the domain is registered and listed at sedo for 2990 EUR BIN, I don't think it's satire.

Indeed, a very apt extension. It will be what the registrants of that extension will be thinking in 5 years time.
Many will be thinking "dotWhat?". On registration volume, some new gTLDs may have problems ahead. Poor registration volume coupled with poor renewal rates could have some registries having to rely on credit before their gTLD operation covers costs.

Links are basically worthless.. but it's short and memorable.. so nothing wrong with having a few for personal use.

I own 123.link and got 2 four figure offers within 24 hours of "getting" it.
