opinion Let's exploit the .blog extension Win or Bust?

Today .Blog extension open it's door. I don't like their pricing setup and thousand of keyword reserved, but what the hell. Let me get some.

I registered CyberWar.blog and now redirecting to my cyber security blog.
What's your plan using .blog extension aside the obvious "blog" posting. Let's exploit the possibility, care to share what's on your mind? What domain you successfully registered and what's your plan for the next 12 months?

I considered registering a few, but elected not to. Did not even bother to check availability...

What for? For own use? No, I am not a blogger, and, should I decide to become one someday, I'll use dotcom OR (depends on blog nature) well established CCtld of my country in a blog name. For resale? No, in 10+ years in domainsales I learned that "bloggers" are definitely not the best buyers of aftermarket domains. In most cases, they would purchase only (if anything on aftermarket at all) domains priced in 3-figures range which alone makes investment in .blog too questionable (and so is registry's intention to sell premiums with both premium reg fee AND annual premium renewal fee). For type-in traffic? Nothing to speak about...

Also the premium domains...the renewals are crazy..No one would pay that type of cash..

If I had 150k in cash I would buy a NNN.com

I totally agree what you are saying, but when they paid $19M for the rights to the extension, not including all backend overheads, and what not... what is the business plan,, it looks like 17,000 registrations in play, say they get $500K from reg fee, and premiums annually, no way they can service their extension in a profitable way. That probably covers salaries, and other expenses barely, let alone servicing debt against that $19M, the business plan is flawed. The extension has had nothing but bad press in the past week, do we really need a .BLOG, off the top of my head I can think of link, live, one, guru, expert, xyz, .net, .org, .co, .info, .us, pro, vip, space, tech, global, social, news, ninja, online, club?

No end in sight, this is artificial demand

We have been seeing this trend since 2014!

The runup into GA is hot, then drift off into a quiet period. Many of the GTLD's got lucky last year with crazy Chinese chip, and numeric registrations which are about to fall off the cliff.

.blog will have to join the 99 cent club soon enough, it is not a major commerce type extension, we have seen it many times before, they are optimistic. When the registrations slow to a crawl, they will go to auction their big names, that money will get burned, and on the next round, there will be less interest, and lower sell thru pricing.

At which point they will probably try a sub $5 promo registration blitz, a year later most of those will drop, there is just to much inventory, to many extensions.

The terms that worth the big money, are reserved, or taken in Landrush, or within the first 2 days of EAP.

Like Weed.Blog sold for $8K in Landrush, now it has a regular renewal.

The business plan is seriously flawed, whoever backed it will have to take a write down on this one, I am guessing all in they are at about $20M right now, big hole to dig your way out of.

When it comes to lump sums like that you can get really nice portfolios for dimes on the so called dollar.
