Do we have really many end-users for them? I have pretty number of L-L-L.coms but I haven't received any offers for them even in $xx range....

Gotta disagree this time.

We have. I am a lazy domainer, but sent out 9 emails thus far and got 3 replies, even if one was no thanks. That is a good start.

You can't pick up end users at every corner. It is ok if out of a portfolio of 200 medium quality letter L-L-L's (or LLLL's or whatever), you get one $2000 + sale a year. This is possible.

Does it always have to be about an end user making an offer? How about seeking them out yourself? Also these names were looked at as investments for the long term, at least 1-3 years. If you were looking for something faster, maybe you should looked into other niches.
I thought domaining is when end-users contact me when they need domain, not when I contact end-users and tell them that they need domains that they perhaps don't need. Should I try to contact end-users myself? Where should I study this? :)

This is also a part of domaining, and many people make their living this way.

BTW. Those crying "what a steal", "bargain" etc.... I have never saw you in auctions because you don't even try to participate in these steals, bargains auctions. Why? May be because you don't plan to invest in this niche? May be because these are not such steals and bargains. These are real current prices?
i can tell you i am in many auctions as i am adding names to my portfolio
what i am doing is paying what the marketing is charging me... bargain prices and when i lose some auctions i get really sad

you know many people are not aware of this industry and we all know these names are used but are not the first names comes to one's mind, so sometimes it is necessary we contact end-users and not wait for them to come

the thread is in David's post is awesome... readi it

besides, i read this in another forum and i think it is really interesting

END-USER STORY

I regged a .com name for a niche product which is the product in plural - let's say the name was DancingShoes.com (it's not - this is an example).

I contacted a few end users, one of which has several websites dedicated to selling this product online. This company enquired about the price - I gave them a figure of $600 - cheap as it's the actual product name and gets 200+ Ovt w/o.

After a day or so, they offered $300. I countered with $500, telling them that after this weekend it will be listed at tdnam for a fair bit more; I am more than happy keeping it - $500 is an absolute bargain - this same company has paid to TM another name (bearing in mind the ficticious example above, let's say their TM is 'Miracle Shoes').

Their reply....."good luck in the auction".

The point of telling you this - think about it:
* they sell this product
* they have several websites dedicated to this one product
* they were interested enough to make an offer
but...
* although they are switched on enough to TM a brand name
* although they rely on internet sales for their income re this product
they still don't see the importance in obtaining the product name, even though they could get it for a paltry $500....

If they don't end up going out of business, and ever come back for the name - boy are they going to have to pay for it...

..............

There is still a helluva lot of upward potential in the domain market if this is a representative example of current end user thinking!

AN E-MAIL CAN CONTAIN THESE WORDS TO AVOID THIS

Bring the isue up at inception:

" I have a domain that wil be of significant value for your business. Before we go any further, I am aware that here is a small element of the business world that is averse to domain brokers inasmuch as they cannot weigh the value of the domain versus their acquisition cost which really translates to MY acquisition cost.

Having said that, do you wish to continue exploring the possibility of acquiring this domain.? "

Now that approach probably flies in the face of most of the orthodox advice. Well, I can say that 35 years of experince proves this approach works.

If you are going to get a no...get it quick. Then like the barber says :
" Next ". Move on to he next company or the next domain.

Fear of loss is the best motivating factor for someone to buy.

Ha! Is what I say to the Naysayers of the l-l-l.com.
Today I check the stats of my A-M-T.com
It had 196 Yes you saw it right!!! 196
Unique views. My theory is this. To stay ahead of the game is to work with stuff that others wont. Most of the time they come back to you and say I wish I did what you did! Can MOST LLL.com compete with these stats? and yet they command such high amounts? Does not make sense.

Number of views means nothing. These can be trackbacks, pings, image requests, requests from iframes, etc. I have a lot of domains on Sedo that have XXXX views monthly but no clicks :(

Your right Ergo.I dont have these names on click views but they are being promoted through Blogs and marketing projects. Still if your only goal to evaluate L-L-L.com's potential is through clicks then it's a waste of a domain as these have to be promoted to create interest.Money is in free marketing not on a few cents here and there.

your theory is correct and every big domainer did that some years ago... they saw value where there was not... in that time
they are very wise as they predicted what would happen so now for us is easier as we know short domain is a great niche which means we will have a good ROI but it is more difficult, i even say impossible, to make the same profits as theirs.

Venture, i think most of us are... most of us :hehe:

i will really keep mine for at least 3 years but i am thinking about selling them in 5-10 years from now becasue i consider reg fee to cheap to the value these names will have... differences aside, their value will increase (i am talking about %) like LLL.com

do not sell them right now, Michael

BTW, i have six U-K-(letter).com
how much do you think they are worth (an average)?

I'm disappointed... I just bought two for $16 a piece here at NP. I was pleasantly surprised, but disappointed that they went for so cheap!

seller needs head checking

great pickups. at end of day, some 'sales' like this will continue to happen, but there is a limited supply. i am sure you will never sell remotely in this ballpark, neither will most, so these 'sales' will eventually dry up in this range, any range of xx imo will disappear,
