Something tells me ...this break room is going to be a complete mess when the debates and voting begins....Mooooooooooooooooooooods!!! just kidding...i hope.LOL

This will be a very interesting election imo...definatly an important election...my family is already asking which way i will vote..I have voted a straight republican ticket the last four elections..It all depends if John McCain runs and wins the REP party...If not...i will be glued in to do my research on the running canidates from both parties.

Agreed, it will be interesting to see how the 2008 debates play out. The 2006 election was real hotbed of discussion here at NamePros, and we're not even a political oriented forum.

VC mentioned the LP. I do hope in my lifetime to see a legitimate third party contend on the national level, and the Libertarian Party seems to have the best shot at doing that in the long run... Its really worth reading up on their platform http://www.lp.org/article_85.shtml

Peace,

RJ

I wish i had someone i could support for president.
How did all our politicians get so bad?

Simple - no campaign spending limits, no donation limits and a incumbent re-election rate of almost 97%. Sorry America - your country is broken. There is no difference between dems and reps. Nearly every single person in the Senate or House is a millionaire or so beholden to them they no longer represent the average American. Corporate rule is now firmly in place. Some coin that fascism, but I don't think you are there yet. But unless you get control of who controls the reigns of power your country is on a one way ride like all empires before it - down.

I don't say that to be mean or cause a fight as when America falls so does Canada, because our countries are so inter-twined.

Get control of the money and you retake your representatives. In Canada we have firm set limits on how much a candidate can spend. It levels the playing field. We have viable third and fourth parties - and a fifth on the way. You essentially have a one party state because only those with money get elected. In Canada in most ridings(districts for you Americans) the max allowed to be spent is less than $80,000 dollars. At comparable sizes for each, think of what that would do to your elections! No longer could the one with the most money or the one willing to sell their soul for money be able to automatically win.

I've run for government myself - I got nearly 10% of the vote while spending less than $1000. American elections see that amount spent in less than half an hour. When 40% of Americans make less than $2000 take home each month how is the average joe/jane American supposed to get equal access as those donating hundreds of thousands of dollars per year? How could they possibly think of running themselves and competing?

The yahoo that just won as mayor of NY spent millions of his own dollars to get elected. You don't do that unless you expect a big payback if you catch my drift.

It doesn't matter who runs - you have no say no matter what lore tells you. The American system of government has great features, but also some huge flaws. You have no right to recall, and no way to force out a government between elections no matter what they do, or how much damage they cause - short of revolution of course.

Simple test for my American friends - quickly tell me the name of the leaders of the Green Party and Libertarian Party in the United States - without using google...

Rant off.

A good read RJ...Thanks....I hope to to see the same in my lifetime aswell...That is what freedom is all about...my thoughts are this...Should the demo and rep parties break down...I think we could see many very good potential nominees running "independent" ...This would be a solution to big government politicians...and perhaps take us into a new undivided era concerning our country..This would benifit all of america...It seems a long ways off from happening....But who knows

Whitebark above has it pretty right on for a Canadian. ;) Now anybody will be an improvement over Bush as he's got to be the worst president in history. What a complete slimeball idgit. I'm an independent by the way and will vote for whomever is best for the people. The Democrats need to figure out that the South (Dixie) still exists and very few down there are going to ever vote for a smart Yankee democrat over a dumb/pig republican. They try Kerry again and it's not gonna work. They need a good ol boy southern democrat to take the next election. The whole thing is idiotic, but that's the way it is. Were it up to me, I'd just go with the popular vote and eliminate the stupid and corrupt parties all together. They don't represent the people anymore anyway.
