The Torino Olympics used torino2006.org and the London Olympics will be using london2012.org...

However Vancouver will be using Vancouver2010.com instead of the .org

I just picked up Vancouver2010.org through Snapnames the other day.. how much do you think it would sell for?

Torino2006.org has an Alexa ranking of 1,199 and Vancouver2010.com's ranking is 49,287 4 years before the olympics go to Vancouver.

I'm assuming there will be ALOT of type in traffic for vancouver2010.org. Any suggestions for a price?

Thanks

I'm surprised the Olympic Teams committee in Vancouver did not secure this domain. As of now, it is hard to say what's the true value of the domain, but face value should be around low $x,xxx. Are you planning to develop it?

Wtf? Somebody letted that name expire? OMFG.

If you are really interested in making big money off it, don't freaking sell it. Join Commission Junction etc. Set up a affiliate website that sells plane tickets to Vancouver and Vancouver hotel tickets, and apply to be a ticket agent, sell tickets to the olympic games. If you do things right, you can make millions.

Hmm I see trouble ahead for you.
See this recent topic: http://www.namepros.com/domain-newb...06-12-20-but.html?highlight=Vancouver2010.org

So you want to defy the IOC ? Why not after all. I agree there may be other events in Vancouver in 2010 but do not forget that 'bad faith' is one of the factors taken into consideration in UDRP rulings to assess whether a registrant/complainant has a right over a given name.

IMO it was somewhat childish to register that name if it's only for the sake of teasing the IOC. Loss of time and possibly money.

That was back in 2004, 2 years ago.

The court didn't grant the domain to the IOC.

Anyone know what happened and why the name's dropped?

I know that the Vancouver Olympic Committee was taking someone to court over the name. I'm guessing that either they didnt succeed or it was still in the courts.

I didnt register this domain name in bad faith. I'm from Vancouver and its well known that 2010 will be a big year for the city. There will be many other events other than the olympics that will be happening during that year. The type in traffic could be used to promote the city in other ways other than just the olympics.

Anyhow, I think odds are that you have caught a good one.

Vancouver isn't a trademark, so WIPO has nothing to do with it. And, it's not against any rule to promote the city or Olympics.

My guess is it will pull in well over $75+/daily during the olympics... Why not keep it, get the rev while you can then let it drop :)

Airfares are big ticket items, you earn $100+/ 100 visitors. For Hotels usually affiliates earn $30+/ 100 visitors. If you partner up with a ticket agent, then in total you can easily get $300 / 100 visitors.

The most important thing, of course, would be to find out more about that lawsuit. If VANOC lost that case than that's super good news for you. If it's still ongoing after these 2 years, then....damn the legal system.

I would be interested in the law suit. I plan to use beijingPRC.net and china-sport.net for the 2008 olympics.
