.mobi Joining forces?

It seems that a good number of members here have worked hard at developing several nice sites. Great start, but I've been thinking....wouldn't it be a wise move on our part if we focused on somehow joining forces in advertising one or several these, in order to best spread the word about .mobi?

I don't know where I'm going with this...but it just seems to me that we would be a lot more successful in promoting .mobi if we put our heads/wallets together and spread the word about perhaps even just one unique and compelling .mobi site.

IDEA: I realize that it may be a rather unlikely idea, but what if we tried our luck at showing mTLD what we've got, and tried convincing them to let several of our qualified .mobi developers work together at developing one of those reserved names? Crazy idea I know, perhaps absurd even...but then again, wouldn't it be good for everyone involved, including the folks over at mTLD? :gl:

I would love to hear all your opinions! Thanks! :tu:

Brilliant, creative "outside the box" thinking, IMHO ... in particularly the part about collaborating with mTLD in the development of their reserved names (since they're basically sitting there languishing, anyway)! You'd think they'd JUMP at this opportunity, in my personal view ... :gl: :yell:

I'm curious to see how far this great idea goes ... :talk:
Please keep us posted and all the best!

Agreed. Mtld made the point that they wanted content on the best names. TheBiffenator mentioned this awhile back on a different forum. If I was mtld, I'd even consider a revenue splitting arrangement -- say, 50/50; which sounds pretty good compared to a 404!

I'm working on a large new site at the moment which will probably be several thousand pages once done (just over 200 pages at the moment). I'll be contacting mtld once it's completed seeing if I can work something out.

Thanks for the input, both of you!

Would appreciate more comments! If anyone is actually seriously interested in something like this, please let me know.

Hi!

Yes, I love such out of the box thinking as well..

I really really think we should recharge our batteries with vigor to work together again..

We are the pioneers, and the working relationships we can make, can propel us to be the frontrunners in our genres - before those generic RFP names come out to companies, with much deeper marketing pockets, who are vying to use the names..

Mobile, even in .com, is somewhat still a baby.. as phones are coming equipped with internet more and more worldwide.. being first is better than not being heard at all, I guess..

I want to thank all those who linked to worldradio.mobi, in the past, and say that I am now rebranding (so feel free to remove those reciprocal links)

This is all a learning process, on the record, and I hope I can be one of those pioneers who actually make it from the grassroots (like Yahoo); rather, than the same old corporation domination..

Working with MTLD in any capacity would be a bonus.. I have been considering offering a 50/50 partnership for each of my extra domain names.. since I am the domain owner, perhaps the other can assist in capacities where I am not able to, yet..

I don't know where I am going with this either, but all I know is I hope to start a family asap.. as well as make a living wage online, rather than my current tough situation..

So I am open, and I want to state that I don't ever want to expect anything from anyone, but all is a bonus..

..the world is watching/waiting

..the door is open

Thank You..

:bingo:

What do you all think of the idea of teaming together and developing a couple of those reserved names? Do you think that mTLD would go for something like that? I realize it makes sense, but.... :hehe:

Who would be interested in being a part of such a team? In order to convince mTLD, I think we'll need several developers on board who have solid credentials.

I have been approached by a member here with a possible idea.

This member is a published author, and had the idea of perhaps featuring one of his books chapter-by-chapter (chapters posted on a weekly basis perhaps) on a .mobi site. Perhaps we could convince mtld to let us use one of their premium reserved domains for a project like this. But do you think a site like this would be successful?

Please give me your thoughts on this, I can't go at this alone! ;)

Even if it was a "you can use the name until we sell or RFP it" kind of contract, I'm sure they'd have plenty of interest. I'd be very interested in a few of their premium health names (melatonin.mobi, nutrition.mobi, calorie.mobi) and will certainly be sending an RFP application should they be offered that way.

u had a great idea egnited but to have a reserved name to develop isnt that easy...
just a few things: 1) the domain isnt yours (the property is still of mTLD); 2) theres a minimum fee of 2000 euro or dollars (im almost sure it is euro) per year 3) u MUST have an act or sth similar from an authority of the county, city or whatever it is to (maybe) have the domain given to u by mTLD to be developed 4) u have to promote this domain (i mean marketing -> probably many money)
so id suggest this: each person try to get one or some names... how? u have to contact the major or another authority (email and i think a call as well) -> thats the first step; after u have the agreement of this person u have to write a letter to mTLD showing them ur plans regarding the domain and u have to send w this letter an official act or sth similar signed by an authority

ur idea is really great but i also think that u have to develop a reserved name from a city that u know well cuz this site can be much better

best regards,
bricio

Ahh...so maybe that won't work after all. But my original concept is, I believe, worth considering seriously.

I know that several members here at NamePros have some top .mobi names that aren't being developed -- perhaps some of those individuals would step up and appreciate it if we could work out some development deals?

I just want to seriously push forward and work together, because working as a team can be much more effective in the long run, :imho:.

Ideas?

I'm planning on submitting a serious proposal (with about 10k set aside for marketing + expenses) for calorie.mobi early next year. If nobody else tries this before me, I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Worst case scenario, I get to chat with mtld and it costs me 2k euro, right? :lala:

hi again Egnited,

ur idea is really great cuz when we r working together we have more ideas more potential... all people almost become a large co (i mean how powerful it comes)
when i wrote above those rules i was just talking about the reserved names and i really think that reagarding our names - and many people here has great names - ur idea if done will be good to everybody... people could begin w geo names that were hand reg`d

regards,
bricio

Well, looks like we've got two people interested in this...onassis & myself.

Anyone else want to join forces and create a .mobi development team? Or perhaps some more of you have ideas?

Yeah, come on join us. :)

ok i could be interested in hooking up to help with development of some mobi's, are we looking to join up and develop 1 of mtld's reserved names or putting forward some of our own names to develop?

i feel it would be better to come up with 1 killer idea that really suits the .mobi extension, then find a name that fits.

thanks james

I like the idea of teamwork - I'd be happy to consider reciprocal listings of .mobi domains on my site (not yet off the drawing board) & other domain based sites (especially the .mobi orientated ones).
I have some fantastic domains & am pretty sure that .mobi will take off because of the arguments I have posted on previously (see my posting history).....
It boils down to the simple facts that people who use the web whilst 'out & about' are not the same market that use the web at home etc.. and that there is no way on Gods earth that you can make peoples eyesight so damned good that you can ever squeeze an entire std web page on a small screen...... yes the screens may improve & there may be mobile micro projectors soon but by & large the mobile web is about useful, practical, simple sites that have a purpose..... this will be borne out by the progress between now & 2010 I'm sure of it.

So, back to the question of teamwork - I'm a supporter of anything that builds .mobi awareness (although I have no tech skills to offer whatsoever.... just a head full of crazy ideas ;)

Regards

Gary

Oh, what industry will we be doing then?? We must have a start first at least.

Well at this point I'm thinking that it would be more viable to just use one of our own names. After all, as long as we come up with a killer idea, we don't need any old "reserved domain". :gl:

And I agree, our first step is to come up with a great idea. :kickass:

Crazy ideas are what we need, Gary! ;)

Oh, what industry will we be doing then?? We must have a start first at least.
At this point I think we should be open to all ideas. But we will need a place for our team to converse, so I will set up private forum for our team. Please PM me if you're interested in gaining access to it (once I get it set up, of course) and that way we can get organized and get the ball rolling with ideas! :kickass:
