I am sure you have all seen the HUGE amount of mobis for sale on this site alone that get ZERO interest ESPECIALLY from other domainers who imho the majority seem like a cagey lot to say the least. It looks like a large number of mobi domain collectors should join the mobi museum and place those domain trophies on the shelf to collect more dust. The domains look great on paper/digitized but no one cares to use them for practical use.

Unless they are the atypical generic dictionary words or some LLL or NNN mobi domain that cross over from .com and .net. The only interest in mobis now adays is for the rare stuff. So what good is the rest of the junk? Many will say give it time to develop and mature. All that will become of most of these mobis is that they will never get re-regged and the initial owner will have lost a ton of money. Mind you alot of people that think they are domainersd have no clue how to create domains from what I have determined as well. There should be lessons given on how to create domains from the crap I have seen in ALL ext that is and not just mobi of course.

There seems to be an awful lot of positive signs towards mobis success but the majority of domainers will NEVER gain that success due to this incestuous domain business. Sure develop a mobi site and maybe like camera.mobi, tickets.mobi or dir.mobi wil be a hit. Big deal. What about moms cookies.mobi, dadslawncutting.mobi as bad examples ( much better than some of the crap I see tho), who cares about such mobi domains? The only reason the ext is getting hyped is beacuse of the recent auctions for the few hot words. If you dont own flowers.mobi, or whatever generic then you MUST develop and if you dont your mobis are virtually worth zip, nada.

PS: All you mobi dogooders. Now dont go telling me my attitude sucks or all I do is complain. I have researched this business for some time and i KNOW what I see. This industry is designed to set up the suckers (yes like me too) , take their $$$$ and then let the top guys clean up while the little guy finances it for them.

What this comes down to is ALOT of people regging or buying in aftermarket (for some unknow reason) crap names at zero value hoping some other sucker will buy it from them so they can deal with it.

It looks like alot of mobiers are quick to take the bait and just got harpooned imho . Thar she blows capt, refering to OUR blown $$$$$!!!

sad scenario. this ext like all new ones will suck the $$$$ out of the everyday domainer who r hoping to be an RS wannabe. I was pumped on this ext now am fed up. its a waste of time and $$.

Visonedge its not a waste of time!

It jsut started out...I am doing my share of work for my .mobis, and they are not a waste of time or money, i can tell you that much! But don't give up yet, the mobile revolution hasnt even begun yet.... Google Adroid for one and the iPhone plus if you do more research, (IT WILL OPEN UP YOUR EYES)

check out the facts...and .mobi is soooooo diferent from any other ext...

Don't give up yet budy, it hasnt even begun!!!

Again, this isn't about, all you have to do is type dotCom on your Cell and be Mobile Optimized.

It all comes down to being Made for Mobile from the Ground Up.

Would you routinely to go to a Minute Mart for your Maintenance Supplies for your Vehicle. Or would You go straight to the Dealer for the Parts or to an Auto supply store that specializes in your Automotive Needs, and was built from the Ground Floor Up for that Very Purpose.

For all Your Mobile Needs (.MOBEE) (Made for Mobile)

Not dotMinuteMart.

Good point :)

I did reg .mobi to use as the mobile version of my pc oriented website domain name that I was planning to develop :).

labrocca - And those worried about .mobi.... + all .mobi naysayers...

You only need to know ONE thing, imo...

If only 5% of a future 3 billion people on the web use a made-for-mobile .mobi domain for their personal, or business, use, that's a demand for 150,000,000 .mobi domains...

I reckon a Drover's dog could make a fortune on even half-decent .mobi names, with a demand for .mobi names like that...

.

I would be willing to bet that 99% of all internet users visit the same 1% of domains daily. There isn't any demand or need for 150 million mobi's. That's just ludicrous to suggest it but you can keep your ideas and dreams. I been through all the naysayer name-calling before. It's nothing new.

If you make enough bets at Blackjack eventually you win with a blackjack...your point is nullified.

"And if you'll follow me in our tour of the New York City Mobi Museum of Natural Domain History, we have this exhibit, featuring the fossilized remains of what were once known as '.mobi naysayers'...for many years, they were thought to be a mythical creature, but we have since found evidence that they did in fact exist. You may be familiar with some of their names: Labroccasaurus, Snoopadon, and Tyrannosaurus Jeff. They appear to have become extinct, however, when their powers of foresight proved to be feeble and natural selection did its thing..."

Awe..how cute..yet utterly meaningless to the conversation. Let me know when you actually have something of meaning to say.

Thanks, glad you liked it.

I guess it's about as meaningful as pompously saying "it feels good to be right" -- when you've got absolutely no idea that you are. Nobody on either side is right or wrong yet...it's far too early to know.

On the contrary....You make my point precisely....

As I said, the way the mobile web will explode, you can bet that the numbers alone will carry .mobi to success - probably as one of several mobile web access devices.

Those who got in too late and registered a lot of crap names will sadly loose money. It's the same for any tld.

I'm very happy with my .mobi investment so far, made a decent profit from selling some and have renewed all my valuable domains until 2009 :)

Yes indeed, but don't you find it ever so reassuring that the same tired old argument keeps getting wheeled out... it just makes me feel that much more comfortable with my portfolio ;)

Just as an aside; have you seen the crap thats being auctioned at this very moment?

I'm sure that there are users for them.. & every niche has its users but I ask you; do you see any 'quality' names in the list? (say 5% - 10% maybe?)

The header on this page has the link (in the pink box)

Not many dotmobis in there, those that are in the list represent some of the more sane domains being sold...

I sense some bias here, most names look ot be getting bids and many names look to be selling, and the prices look quite reasonable, so I would have said the quality is fairly good. Would you say your own names would yield higher prices on average than those?

Sorry Snoop - did you say 'quite reasonable'?........... Did you say that the quality seems 'fairly good'?

I think we must be either looking at different lists or be from a different planet my friend..

To answer your question; would my names yield higher prices?

Given that the ones I was looking at (in the auction) were anything from $6 average through to $400 for a 3rd rate LLLL.com I would say yes I would expect my names to yield more.

If you were to say, would they yield more in todays auction? Quite possibly not... it may be a liquid market but it's certainly not a sellers market..

I wouldn't waste my time with 90% of what I saw on the auction list.. God knows I've got some howlers in my portfolio... don't we all; I call tham my Edison moments... another failure on the road to success ;)

It's the difference between an Arab selling the Americans Oil; that'll be your domainer selling to a keen end-user)

Or the Americans trying to sell sand to the Arabs; that'll be your domainers selling names to other domainers ;)

I quite like that analogy... I may use that again! :hehe:

It is the pot calling the kettle black then isn't it. What is the point in complaining if you think your own names "quite possibly" wouldn't sell for more?

You don't get it do you Snoop...

I'M NOT SELLING..... NOT TO YOU, NOT TO A NUTHER DOMAINER, NOT TO ANYONE RIGHT NOW.....

I'm collecting firewood in the summer to sell in the winter

I'm buying Gold in 1998 to sell in 2008

I'm buying Uranium in 2002 to sell in 2012

I'm shorting Google from 2008 to 2010

I'm preparing myself for a future market... I'm not interested in todays values... because I'm not selling!!!

I have never bought a house on a monday & doubled my money by wednesday... I buy houses one year & maybe sell in 5 years maybe 10 years, maybe never... certainly the property I'm in now will never be sold while I'm drawing breath... I'd be a fool to.

Why do you keep assuming that I need to sell my names in a buyers market?

I'm a buyer in a buyers market at the moment...

When I choose to sell, it will be when it is a sellers market...

THE SALES I HAVE MADE HAVE BEEN FROM WHOIS ENQUIRIES ONLY (Bar a few that I bought 'to order' & a few that another domainer wanted from me at a good price)
I AM NOT ACTIVELY SELLING & WHEN I DO, I WILL NAME MY PRICE - I WILL SELL EACH NAME WHEN THE RIGHT BUYER COMES ALONG....

Of course I'll sell some cheap, of course I'll bung a few into the auctions every now & then... everyone needs to watch the cash flow & grease the bearings every now & then but get this; every name is unique... what makes a name saleable is not therefore it's uniqueness alone - it has to be good too.

I will find out what my best names are when I receive my cheques.. you can never tell what each will achieve but I'm not interested in what names go for during a poxy little auction where almost everyone involved is a domainer / web developer / wannabee playing with pocket money 3rd rate domains (most not all - no offence to anyone who knows me better)

I don't need to sell my names for $15 or $50......... if I believe they're crap with no value (& I have plenty of those too) then I will sell them to a domainer who disagrees with me & is willing to part with $50 or $100 etc..

But I would treat those names as worthless & concentrate on the better names..

I WILL SELL WHEN I DECIDE TO SELL... DO YOU GET ME NOW OR NOT?

When someone wants one of my names I will sell it to them but I will name the price based on my research, my gut feeling, my experience...

Now, if you don't mind I was going to bed 3 hrs ago (but got stuck into another little job)

G'nite (again)

I don't know why threads like this get any time. You have a portfolio. You renew what you deem renewable. You sell off or drop what you don't. Largely those sell-off's are not 'another man's treasure.' Plain and simple. NEXT.

Agree 100% Paul. If you believe in .mobi, don't let anyone tell or convince you of otherwise :tu:

From what I've seen lately, .mobi is doing very well :) Who cares what reseller prices are right now? When I first came to the .mobi subforum in February 2007, I distinctly remember most of you saying .mobi was a long term play -- it still is and if we want to reap the benefits of our investment, we're just going to have to wait a few more years...

All's good in the mobi camp.. Pick up a few short dotcoms to complement your mobi collection if you're itching for a fast ROI.

Looks like we have a majority vote for closing it...

O.P. is free to pm me if he wants it to be re-opened but to be honest, I don't see discussion going anywhere, like most mobi threads that try to educate those that don't want to listen.
