Someone finally tried to scam me. The email was sent from: [email protected] and was under the name of InTech Consulting. I knew right away it was a scam... the inquiry came about a domain I had registered the day before. He asked for my asking price and I gave him a price about 100x higher then anyone would put my domain at. Nonetheless, he wrote back saying that it was fine and that he would need an appraisal. His preferred company, of course, was alldomains.com.

Is there anything else I can do besides report him here? Maybe sign his email up for ridiculous amounts daily newsletters? ;)

Anyway, beware any of the new domainers out there.

Update: I got a response from him. Check it out here: http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?p=577244#post577244

… get around 3-4 nigerian letters / day.. sucks!

What do you mean that letters from Nigeria about the $40 million in overappropriated oil funds is a scam???? I don’t believe that or harm in sending them blank signed checks. I am sure my funds are coming any day. Also, it’s not a scam because the E-mails from Dr. Ego of Nigeria are typed in all caps.

OK, back the to domain appraisal scam.

I got one from him, but used the opposite strategy

I put it at a price so low that it would have looked silly for him to ask me for an apprasial... what's more, had he actually accepted the offer, i would have stilled made a almost 800% profit...

I wrote back telling him I knew what was up... and got an unbelievable response. Check it out:

I'm not a scammer.

You can read about me at
http://www.DNF/showthread.php?t=88864

I'm just playing with such suckers like AllDomains.com and Sedo.com. WHY?

In my opinion appraisal service on domain names is a scam. Appraisers like
AllDomains.com, Sedo.com and Aftrenic.com are showing bogus figures and
charge money for nothing. This is a big trap for all the domainers.

How can we stop them? There is only one way! When you order a service and
then make charge back the company will have to pay the charge back fee. If
they get too many charge backs they will have to close the business.

I've decided to stop the domain appraisal scam this way.

It works very simple. Earlier I made several charge backs but it was not
enough to stop them. Now I've contacted several domain sellers and asked
them to order appraisals at Sedo.com and AllDomains.com. Then I asked domain
sellers to cancel these orders because it was a joke.

As a result AllDomains.com and Sedo.com will lose big money on charge backs.
My goal is to destroy AllDomains and Sedo.

Thank you for helping me to crash these appraisers.

Now my traget is Afternic.com. I will ask people to order appraisals at
Aftrenic.com and then I will tell them about my jokes.

Afternic.com (like AllDomains.com) will have to stop their appraisal
business due to high amount of charge backs and charge back fees.

Yahooo!! We'll destroy them!!!

He's full of... you know what. :o

Even if that's really what he's doing, it's wrong to try and drag us into his rotten little scheme.

If he's got a legitimate beef with those companies he should come forward asking the domain community for it's feedback and support. NOT trying to trick people and string them along, involving innocent parties in his plans. At what point was he going to tell the rest of his plan to the sellers he contacted?

The whole thing stinks.

Those types of scams are even older then the domain ones. They just get your bank info and drain the account.

I also received a couple emails like this. What I like to do is tell them you don't like to discuss business of this matter in the email and tell them you want them to contact you in person. Only thing is the number I give out is either my local sherrifs dept or the FBI Internet Fraud Division. It' seems to work because they usually stop hasseling me. I think they call and get the surprise of their life when the person on the other end says " Hello, Federal Bureau of Investigation Internet Fraud Division, How may I direct your call. lol. I think It's a recorded message now, but still I'd like to see the look on their face.
