    Hi All,
I bid for an LLLL.com on Expired Domain Auctions at Dynadot. And yesterday, I was declared the winner at mid $xxx. They asked me to send the payment which I did today. But right now, i got an email from Dynadot that the domain has been renewed. I got this in email: "The expired domain auction for LLLL.com has been cancelled because the original registrant has renewed the domain."

Can somebody renew a domain that is already expired? And if they can, then why did they ask me to make the payment without catching it?

My money is now stuck in Dynadot account (mid $xxx). I feel like I'm screwed.

Please advice. I really appreciate any adivce.

Simply email Dynadot CS to refund your money vs a Dynadot credit and they will promptly refund your credit card. You bid on an expired auction - not a dropcatch and the original registrant still had the opportunity to renew the domain during the 40 day grace period which is what happened. Generally the domain will be moved to your account between 3-4 days after the end of the auction. Up until that time you are not guaranteed the domain. I've had them renewed on me just prior to when I expected have the domain moved to my account and often you will see them renewed before the auction even ends. Regardless - Dynadot will cheerfully refund your money to the original payment method upon request.

Yeah they can renew there domain if they want. You may want to call support and ask if they will give you a refund. But you may end up getting stuck with credit. Your not screwed this is how it works at dynadot when someone renews a domain

Thanks @Jeff Weller , @imadoer , that explains. I just emailed back and asked them if they could release my money out of DD.

But still curious, why would someone wait till their domain expires! In any case, it'd be interesting to compare the WHOIS after a week time. :xf.smile:

sometimes people get lazy or they cant make there mind up if they want to renew the domain and they wait until last minute. also some guys want to see what there name will do at auction.

Some domainers derive pleasure from letting other domainers buy their expired domains, and then renewing them afterwards. Jason Newby is one such domainer. Coincidentally he tends to own the majority of decent expired domains at DynaDot, and few of the expired auction wins over at Dyna actually go through.

I really like staff at dynadot... but I just don't participate in their expired auctions anymore because of this issue. The same people do this repeatedly. And it just isn't worth it.

Same here, waking up at 5 AM to bid on an auction and then the owner renews.. sucks.

Just an update: they sent the money back to my Skrill account from where I had made the payment. This was consoling. :)
