I recently wrote a blog on allthings titled: 'tv.com' or '.tv'???

I wanted to know what everyone thought of this:

Do visitors of a .tv site type in the tv.com counterpart at the same rate as tv.com visitors who type in the .tv equivalent (simply to see what lies on the other side)?

I think "tv.com" is more popular than ".tv". Even in certain languages that differ from English (opposite), I see many sites that use "tv*****.com".

But what about your answer to this question:

No one can truthfully say which ext. is better than the other. For instance I own cuptv.com and chord.tv. Both are strong brand names and only time will tell the difference in value. The .TV extension is in it's infancy and may show more potential in video application. What I strongly suggest is that everyone realize the possibilities of both and register/develop what you can so when the technology arrives you can apply it.

I would take a tv.com over a .tv almost anyday, and I believe and invest in .tv. It really comes down to the use/need.

If a serious development project were on my plate and needed/wanted to use .tv I would ensure I obtained the tv.com version and forward it. Maybe years downs the road typing .tv wil come more naturally for consumers/visitors/members etc... but now and in the near term .com is still easier for people to HEAR on tv and radio, SEE/COMPREHEND in written advertisiments, and TYPE more naturally. Conditioning, Conditioning, Conditioning (I'm only talking about the US market, so don't get yer knickers in a bunch people).

Even at the DT auction, to me it kind of sounded funny to hear the auctioneer say "hot DOT tv" when HE was not used to saying it. My natural inclination when speaking about it is to just say "Hot TV", and when others are conditioned to type ".tv" the extension will get the foothold in the various advertising models rivalling .com.

If .TV sites have more professional development than TV.com then it can create a subliminal impression that TV.com are copycats.

If TV.com domains come at par, then it has a run for the money...

But as others say, too early to tell...

This is where marketing AND positioning come into play.

.tv is far and away superior to any tv.com if the right marketing program takes place. It's only a matter of time.

And yes, it's gonna happen.

Is dot tv a more powerful brand than xxxxtv.com ? Absoloutely it is, no contest imo.

Is it more popular than xxxxtv.com ? hard to say at the moment, but it has closed the gap quickly imo, and i suspect it will surpass xxxxtv.com sooner rather than later.
