Hi guys, in your opinion, is parking dead?

Look at my last month screenshot, there are a lot of days with clicks and $ 0 revenue. 3 clicks and $ 0.01....

    My stats:
    CTR: 1.5% (LOL)
    RPC: $ 0.01 (LOL! But only when I'm lucky! Otherwise 3 clicks $ 0!)
    RPM: $ 0.11 (Seriously??? 1k user to earn $ 0.11? $ 0.11??)
    Last month earning: $ 0.09 (LOL!!!!) .

I suppose I'll move away all my domain from parking companies and redirect them to sedo/uniregistry/afternic landing page.

This situation does not make sense.

    Hi

it's not dead, just not what it used to be.

just like everything else that was "gud" back in the day
before "mr mean" and the take back consortium took over. :)

but it also depends on the actual names you have parked.

i got a couple of lucky $4.74 clicks the other day on a name, that has only 9% CTR.
but it averages $1.60 EPC for the year.

though 10 yrs ago that same name averaged EPC's of $10 > $15

also have a 4 letter.com, with year to date stats::

    4,406 1,157 26.26% $ 0.09 $ 24.08 $ 106.08

several years ago, the same name made $$$ monthly.

so, i think the "heart" of ppc is sticking beating,
but it doesn't run hundreds of laps around the track everyday, like it used to

    imo...

what if someone proactively did some backlink and PR efforts and social media promo? to boost traffic? no guarantee of increased profits right?

Depending on how many ads you have plastered and your domain niche/keywords, a 1.5% CTR is pretty normal.

As the amount of web traffic increases and the number of ad networks grows, there is great pressure for CPM and CPC rates to keep on coming down. Google Adsense created the AdBalance tool which helps increase the rates... but "temporarily" down.

You can't just park a domain and wait for folks to go there... you actually have to drive traffic there.

I hear the way to go these days post all the Google "rearranging" of things is creating a Youtube Video and posting a link to your domain.

but you will need to be creative.

I don't think I have seen a parking page in years. When I land my adblocker blocks virtually the entire page. In my opinion you would be way better off with a straight landing page. The small amount you get from a parking page is not worth the possibility of a lost sale.

Footnote: Goes without saying that if you have a huge traffic domain my advice above does not apply.

    Hi

there is no proof, which validates any argument of lost sales, because the name was parked.

in fact, it may be quite the opposite -
as a parked domain gives the inquirer.... the impression that the name is not developed
and not being used (under their perception)...
therefore, it may be for sale.

whereas that assumption is less likely, if there is a live website attached to the domain.

additionally, if a domain makes $1.00 a month, that enough to pay renewal fee for .com

that ability to hold domain names "that pay for themselves" -
allows that domain owner to "wait for the right buyer", for that particular name.

the more names in that portfolio which are "self-sustaining" -
will, in time, provide him/her an income stream from names they still own!

sorry, but even for names that don't get huge traffic, the advice still may not apply.

    imo...

You might be right but I don't know if you have ever looked at a parked page with adblock plus and the ultimate filter list loaded. That is a very popular extension which almost completely hid parked pages, it shows no links and/or content. I see a page and click to the next website.

As ad blockers get even more popular they are certainly taking away from parked pages where a nice landing page would not be blocked and therefore increases the odds of a sale.

@biggie It's a great debate though and I can see your point but I am talking from years of personal experience where I can say I don't see content of a parked page.... none... zero.

Parking is not dead.Diversify your source of income.
Maybe you need to release your bad domains and get keyword quality domains.

    Hi @TheWatcher
I don't know about you but when is the last time google sent you to a parked page for a search. I remember reading an article that said google was actively trying to eliminate sending searches to parked pages to increase the quality of searches.

Everytime I get a parked page it is because I typed in the URL being curious who was using the domain but that is because I am a domainer myself, I don't think the general public does that unless they see the domain advertised somewhere. If I am looking for a table lamp I don't think I would ever type in TableLamps.com so even keyword quality domains will suffer if they are on a parked page.

A developed website or a parked page with some content will probably rank better on google and if you put your own ads on it you can cut out the middleman completely.

    Just saying.....

Agree, I use ad blocker and A LOT of the pages that I visited are just blank white pages. lol.
My ad blocker blocked the entire page. lol.
Landing pages from @toughdomains and a few others work just fine however, minus the ads that are blocked. I firmly believe you need content pages with ads, rather than a page full of ads.

As far as pages that have type in traffic.... no crap, really?!!? =) Take the same page and do some link building to it and build up even more traffic.

The only pages that can really work well are either type in pages, OR those that had high traffic to them with an existing backlink profile that either just expired or you bought.

Regging a new name and parking it will do absolutely nothing. I even have a Bodis account to prove it.... (wait, there is a $.07 balance in there that keeps rolling over.).

I think @MapleDots is largely correct in pointing the finger at adblockers killing much of parking potential. All of my friends/peers use some browser extension to block ads or tracking. We've used 3 different parking services over the past few years and none of their pages display for me.

Forget about your friend. There are billions of users, a low percentage probably using ad blocker.
If you concentrate on parking for your business, say goodbye now and don't waste your time.

    HAHAHA.

Wishful thinking and trust me, I wished I was wrong.

I run a fairly successful forum. Looking at my own adsense numbers, more than 50% use ad blockers. =)

i hand regged this in 2016

    disabilitylawers.com 133 visitors 14 clicks > $15.87 USD

it average $1.13 per click at sedo

    also regged in 2016:
    taxlawers.com 16 visitors 2 clicks > $11.87 USD

then dropped it and re-regged again last month for $3.99 at directnic

    imo...

Congrats. You do have an awesome name that as per google has a $14.58 CPC for the exact phrase.

How much does Sedo take and share vs just running your own adsense?

Hence what I like about a service like @toughdomains where I can have my domains parked and they run my own Google Adsense code, so I know EXACTLY what my CPC is.

Lawyer domains have the highest CPC for almost any specialty, you would be hard pressed to get anything near that for other keywords.

I think it's because ToughDomains is a member here, he is a helluva nice guy and very receptive to giving members what they ask for. I would use his services personally if I had to pick but right now I made my own lander and am happy with that. I like tough and efty myself but efty needs some work while tough seems to be very responsive to when a namepros member requests something.
