Hi All,

I just registered this “Premium“ domain.
Given the fact that this is one of the most unpopular extensions (I haven't found any past sales of it), how Premium is News.Army in your opinion?
Do you think it can only be used as a website giving news about the army? or could it be an alternative news website?
Godaddy says it's around 6.5K $ and Freevaluator says it's more than 500K $.
Also, how likely is it to sell it for at least 5K $ within a year? (before 100$ renewal)
And, where would you list it for sale?

Thanks a lot!

No sales history with extension, drop the mame, no company will be wanting this one. Learn what makes a domain valuable before buying names, spend a few months reading this forum first.

Stick to .com when starting out.

Yeah, I know but it may be because no one has heard about this extension yet?

The advantage of a premium domain (all extensions included) listed in a place like Afternic is that if someone types the word News, the domain will show up and be discovered. This just doesn't happen if you have a 2 word .com domain.

Say you have NewsArmy.com and you only type the word News, the domain just won't show up. But if you type only News, this domain will show up amongst the other extensions. This was my logic behind the registration. Was it bad?

But aside from that, you really could not picture this name as anything viable? I find the combination powerful and could work for an alternative news site like wiki leaks, Alex Jones, and the likes. It can also work for any News site that simply wants and Edgy, modern extension. No?

Also, I like your paternal tone very much. I feel like a child, again :)

You need to understand that this is not premium...a premium name is Health.com, Sport.com, Insurance.com etc

You need to put yourself in an end-users shoes, they wont base their company around a name like this. If they wanted a good name, they would get a cctld or .com name.

How you interpret it is up to you, its just advice, take it or leave it. :xf.wink:

I take it with grace, no worries :) Ok fair enough, this was the intention of my post. I am clearly asking is this is a premium domain, and you are very clearly answering that it's not. So, just to be clear, you are telling me that if I listed it for 1000$ on Afternic, no one will NEVER buy it? You are telling me that I shouldn't bother to list it anywhere and that I should try to get a refund? Isn't this the story of every new extension? No one cares until someone does, and then people start to follow? In this case, I cared more about the combination of the words, rather than the rare extension itself. I thought this could be an intriguing News domain for someone stumbling upon it on Afternic. Thanks a lot for your feedback anyways!

I will gladly take opinions from other experienced domainers too :)

100%, I would get a refund, focus on extensions that sell and have a history of successful sales, there are 100s of these new extension, 99.9% are rubbish and will be gone in a year or 2, its keeps repeating itself all the time. I mean .army does not even appear in namebio.com

We see it here ever year, you end up wasting your money and when you buy a whole bunch of them, you have to pay those renewals in 12 months or let them expire. If you have say 25 of them, renew them all for 2 years (Im just guessing theyre around $20/year each), then you make a sale of $1000, you have made $0 profit when you add up the renewal costs. Rather look at dropping/expiring lists or email owners of some good names and find some .com bargains, they are out there if you look around. Rather spend $200 or $500 one 1 decent name that will sell rather than 20 or 50 hand registered names that will expire in a year or two. Its all about quality over quantity with domains.

In the past 4 years, the only reported sales of the exact match "news" are..

news.im 202 USD 2018-09-27 Dynadot
news.casino 260 USD 2018-05-03 Sedo
Source: Namebio.com

There are 471 domain extensions registered for the word news. Yours would be 472. Probably far down the list as far as value.
Source: DotDB.com

It's not worth a premium registration let alone renewals for that name.

You'll be happy you didn't get it. :)

Ok thank you Silent Ptnr! Please tell me, where do you find how many (same) domains are registered under all the extensions? Also, does Namebio show every single the sale ever registered?
Thanks again!

Yes, I listed the sites. They are really good tools that domain investors use.

Namebio.com for the reported sales and dotdb.com how number of registered extensions.

Ok, I just saw that, thanks a lot!
I just asked for a refund, I should get my money back.
I also listed it on Afternic and this shitty extension didn't show up when typing the word News alone :xf.laugh:
Again, thank you guys very much for not letting me waste 90$! (y)(y)(y)

So you say it's very unlikely to sell fresh hand registered .com domains? There is no more possibilities of finding new interesting names with value? I am asking because I have around 100 of those and sold my first within 6 weeks for 800$. I had to wait for the completion of the 60 days in order to transfer it. I should receive the money in 3 days :)

Certainly not impossible, but you will get more sales buying quality names and 99% of most quality names are registered. Work out the registration/renewal costs of those 100 names and then see your profit from that $800. A good indication is to put your top few names up in the appraisal and see what people who have been doing this for a long time think of the names.

Those 800$ (650$ after 20% Afternic fee) already cover 90% of the 100 registrations, as I got them for 7$ each. I only need to sell 1 more (at around the same price) to be profitable.
Thanks for your advice, I will come back with my best .coms for appraisal soon!

Yeah, but when did you register them? When are renewals due?

If you got .army name and other gtlds, unlikey you got them for $7 each, work out yourt total registration cost of all the names

.army names are $23 at Namecheap.

Good sale for newly name though. Do you mind sharing the name, was it outbound/inbound?

I started hand registering .com domains around 10 weeks ago. I have somewhere around 100 now.
I found a 20% coupon for NameCheap and got them for 7$ each. So I still have at least 9 months to try to sell them.
The name I sold was a short dot.com starting with the word Tech.
I prefer not to reveal it, as I am planning to use the same second keyword to create new registrations using similar strong initial words, like Tech. It was a direct purchase without negotiation.

Also, the only non-dot.com domain I own (now that I have dropped News.army:)) is Propel.global, for which I didn't get a discount, :/

and what is the extension breakdown of your names (.com, .army etc) would love to find a %7 domain, even with 20% off. My advice would be slow right down on registering names until you are making regular sales. Good luck in the future

As I told you. They are ALL dot.com, except Propel.global.
Yes, I will quit registering new domains, until I sell another one, promise! :)
