Is Namejet.com using us to find the valuable domains? (and drive prices up)

I recently backordered a domain on Namejet about 10 days before the cutoff date. I was the only one until a couple of days ago and now 23 (!!!) bids are on the domain as the backorder time ran out.

First off, where did 23 people come from? Snapnames even a year ago had very few. I got a good domain in a bid with one other.

Secondly, I see Namejet promotes the good names we find. If I see a good domain out of the 10s of thousands, I backorder. Namejet now figures the domain is worth something and shows off all the domains that are backordered. Others come out of the woodworks and also bid, because that name is now on the first page. There is now a bid war, with much competition.

Would we be better off not backordering any good domain we find until the last minute? (Loose lips sink ships) We are bound to find some good names on our own but when we do Namejet let's everyone know about it!

Im sure they use every thing they can to drive prices up. They are not in this business for fun you now. :)

I usually waits to the last minute before I backorder anything. But the one problem with that is, I usually forget to backorder them and end up loosing them because others did. lol

But sometimes the domains are not backordered by anybody and I get it much cheaper and register them for normal reg. fee. :)

No doubt namejet has a great inventory but I don't get a lot of bargains there. Too much competition driving prices up.

I guess the strategy would be to not give any hint that a certain domain interests you and just remember to backorder right before the cutoff time (usually 8PM pacific time) and maybe no one else will see it. At least LESS people will see the domain you're after.

I was thinking about back-ordering that was registered with enom and I was directed to NameJet. When I saw how they were promoting names (even before I read this thread), I decided it was going to be a complete waste of my time because they would do exactly what the OP said.
