I have a domain. He was hosted and put online.
Now, I have a new host and I want to change the domain there (just the name, no files).
I have the login data of the domain and the new host, but not from the old host.

Is it possible to put my domain online in the new host?

Thanks!

Yes, change the DNS from the registrar's panel.
if the name was purchased by your hosting company ("free" name) they must transfer it to you.

Thank you, Nodws!

They transfered it to me now. My fear it was they refuse to do it because we had some problems.
I see that hosts 'imprison' domains.
I know very little about this, but seems that the domain owner should have the power to simply disallow any host to display their domain online.

Frederico you do control the servers. You can control them from your registrar. The place you bought the name. You need to log in at your registrar and set the name servers to that of the new host. The new host
should provide you with the new server specifics.

Can you tell where the name is registered at?

Namenut, thanks for your help.
I really don't know!
It is a .com domain that was primarly hosted in godaddy, but in a sub-rented space for the person I worked at the time.
With the person I work now, we decided to get a new host to avoid any possible problems. We had the key to enter the old control panel, but I know now it was expired.
The problem is solved. But to be able to control our domain without data from the hoster seemed a reasonable tought.

I now can get to both control panels, the new and the old, because that key was renewed.
Registrar is what? Is getting directly to the domain?

I'm sorry, you understand I'm very dumb in these things.

Frederico,

To connect a domain to a hosting all you need to do is to change the nameservers.

You don't need to move the domain. Some hosting companies will trick you. Don't move your domain to any hosting company. This is a bad idea.

Keep your domain where you have registered it. For instance if you registered at Godaddy, keep your domain at godaddy and only change the nameservers.

Watch this video for godaddy:
YouTube - How to change NameServer on Godaddy.com - www.abid.in

Do NOT transfer your domain to any hosting company.

Thank you, Erdinç!

By now I believe the problem is solved, but I'll discuss this issue with the person who works with me in this.

Erdinç, could you help me once more, please?

I have my domain in my own acount now in godaddy. Changing the nameservers will be useless now, i guess... And if I did so, why? And what nameservers would be?
I have the nameservers of the new host I bought after. If I unlock the domain and change the nameservers, the domain is moved and that's it? Or there will be some problem?

Thanks!

you don't unlock your domain, just change the dns server to the new host.

No, it will be useful. But after you change your nameservers inside your Godaddy account, you need to wait a few hours until they start working.

And if I did so, why?
Because changing the nameservers will connect your domain to your hosting. You want to use your domain for a website don't you? So all you need to do is to change your nameservers and wait a few hours.

Nameservers should look something like this:
ns1.bluehost.com
ns2.bluehost.com

or like this:
ns1.dreamhost.com
ns2.dreamhost.com

It depend on what hosting company you are using. When you buy a hosting, the hosting company will send you a welcome email. In the welcome email you will see their nameservers. If you have the nameservers of the new hots, these are the nameservers you need to enter at Godaddy. You need to wait a few hours until they start working.

Like the previous member said, you don't need to unlock the domain. Unlocking is for transfers. But you are not transferring.

Here is another video for Godaddy:

Thanks, Cache! And thank you very much again, Erdinç!

I'm really learning about this. I thought GoDaddy was not only the registrar from the domain, but also the host.
The nameservers are independent, and they are the host, no I understand.
I'm gonna change the nameservers, thanks!!
