If you want to register .tel do so but do not register .tel tm names, waste of time.
There will be naysayers at every new launch who feel that they do not want to invest and consider that they are crusaders for right- their right to tell others what to do! Generally means a lack of confidence in their own decisions.
However- if you do decide to invest in .tel wait until the prices are reasonable, late March I believe. If you do want to spend $300 right now search the forums- some great deals even for .com.
Good luck

I agree here.
If you're just coming into domaining, don't invest in .tel UNTIL you understand what it's all about.
.Tel is not like other TLDs.
You CANNOT build a website on .tel domains or add cpc ads on it; it's a contact TLD where you can build links to various sites, either your own or paid links (directory) to other sites.
On March 24, if you find some good available keywords or phrases, then go ahead a reg a few. However, between now and then, research what constitutes a good keyword or phrase. Google Adwords Keyword Tool is a good place to start. Just be sure you do your search based on the "exact" metric, not broad. The EXACT term/phrase will have brackets [] around it. Don't be fooled by large broad search numbers.
For now, READ about what makes a good keyword or phrase.
And stay far away from widely-known TMs (like Yahoo or Google); if these are still available, there's a good reason for it. If not, they have already been regged by the rightful TM holder/owner or some incredibly naive newbie, who can expect to have the domain yanked from him/her without any compensation for it.
Hope this helps you, at least a little.
