Are any of you guys buying .tv domains? Do you think short snappy tv names have any value?
I found an awesome tv name but normally stick with .coms and .net.

I also heard rumours the island behind this extension was sinking so potentially the tv extension could be wiped out....any truth is that

In August I received an unsolicited offer for a .TV domain I had acquired only a few months prior. The last time I sold a .COM domain at that price level was Feb 2010.

As for buying myself, sure I take a couple most days but I find most of my buying budget gets gobbled up by verisign in one evil mouthful for some of these alleged 'premium' domains blehh

Basically the way domaining has evolved, people are now generally flexible when it comes to securing a domain.

Large corporate entities with a valid trademark claim, simply legally muscle the domain away. Small start-ups often try a variety of name variations to find an available .COM domain. Then if there are none to be found, they look at other extensions like .TV. Not to "buy", but to find available, register, and develop.

In my view, .TV is a viable alternative for end-users offering media related content but is not viable for creating a reliable cash flow for a third-party reseller such as yourself. With this in mind, I would avoid .TV unless you are a developer and stick to .COM and .ORG for speculative investment.

I actively participate in expired auctions, and back ordering. In fact the last name I won, the other bidder contacted the original owner to get the name renewed and then purchased it from the original owner.

So the answer is yes. There are lots of people buying .TV domains. They just are not brodcasting it.

Are you saying that .NET is not worth investing in? Do you believe .ORG holds more value than .NET?

I have stopped acquiring .tv names about a year ago. Just holding onto what I've got & will reduce my portfilio to about the top 40 names. Putting my $$$ into other domain investments these days.

I presume we are talking .COM here. Moving money into valuable .COM domains?

I still buy a good .TV name when i see one available or for a good deal in the aftermarket. The fact is TV has already been a proven success with countless .TV sites being advertised every day.

.TV is simply the most successful domain "hack" ever created. CC, CO and all those others simply never cut it.

By the way, .CO is so bad you dont even want to get me started...

I will buy .tv if the name is intelligent enough and sounds like a good fit.

The other day I regged ihemp.tv and made a short wordpress site.
With the current climate toward industrial hemp, it may prove to be a good investment. Time will tell, but I am happy with the name. The .com and .org were taken(natch) but .tv ain't too shabby and am happy to get it...
