I got a bill today from Moniker for $90 for renewing names that I transferred away from them. The names are now with GoDaddy and this shows up in Whois, yet Moniker still has them recorded on their system. And they've debited my credit card for $90 for renewing the names.

This is not a new problem. I emailed them some weeks ago and told their support team they had failed to delete a name I had transferred out months earlier.

My advice to all Moniker account holders - check to make sure names that you've transferred out are deleted.

I now have to try and get this transaction reversed. You can imagine how much fun that will be.

Call Moniker if you can and calmly explain what happened. Once they confirm
what happened in your case, I'm pretty sure they can refund that.

Sorry to read what happened. Not fun, I can tell you that.

I have similat situation with Eurodns, itransferred few my names to GoDaddy a month and a half ago, but the names are still recorded in their systems as well. Need to contact them now in order to avoid the potential double renewal fees :( Thanks for sharing this info, Rodash.

Because of these bugs registrars have, you do not feel comfortable leaving credit card info for auto-renew...

At least your dealing with a Moniker.

I'm going though this crap with 1and1. I'm no longer have a single domain with them and they still charging me.

Now can you imagine going through what your going through with 1and1?

I always make sure that all of my domains are set to Manual Renew. I have had Moniker domains that I transferred away still showing in my account for several weeks after they had been transferred. It's why I haven't used them as much as say, Godaddy or Namecheap.

That seems like kind of a major issue to me. Domains that are no longer with them, they still show as with them? I wonder if the acquisition will improve the resolution time or hurt it...

Accidents happen, call them & they will straighten it out. I would also advise to set all of your names to manual renew or remove the payment options at all of your registrars.

After I've transferred any domains away from Moniker I ALWAYS email my account rep to remove them from my control panel.

Shouldn't they automatically disappear from your control panel once you transfer out & it's been done?

I would have thought so too but obviously not, because the Support section has known about this particular bug for six weeks and not done anything.

Putting aside the current matter, I contacted Moniker's Support team on 23 January 2008 (support ticket 5426-4860093) about a domain name called TennisCoach dot org, which I transferred to GoDaddy but which was not deleted from my Moniker account. The Moniker system was wanting to renew the name, even though it had been transferred out of Moniker. The only thing that stopped that name being renewed was the fact that I had it set to manual renewal. It took a few emails going back and forth to fix that particular problem. I thought that the Support person I dealt with would have alerted management to this bug, and the underlying software problem would have been looked at and fixed. But that obviously didn't happen. Why didn't it happen? Who knows, but I would love to whether the Support person failed to act or if management was slack and ignored the matter. Either way it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

My account rep has asked me on occasions to transfer all my names to Moniker. How could you possibly have bulk names regged with Moniker when they aren't on top of issues like this?

Anyway, I've lodged a support ticket and my rep is also looking into it, so hopefully I can get this transaction reversed.

Yep. But Moniker is not the only one who leaves them in your CP after they've been transferred. In fact, the registrars who delete transferred domains, are in the minority, imho. Any registrar who doesn't delete transferred domains, should be treated with suspicion, imho. Not that they are necessarily cheating, but it implies their CP is weak. It puts additional burden on us domainers to keep then honest. Which we don't need.

You're right about GoDaddy, they definitely delete transferred names. I've never had any problems with their system in that regard. They remove them from the system shortly after the transfer is finalised.

It NEVER happens at Moniker... and quite a few other registrars as well.
