I have previously transferred out domains from powerpipe succesfully however yesterday I initiated a transfer of my last domain with them only to find that the domain was locked. On my control panel for the domain there is no feature to unlock it so I started searching the site.
I found a support link to request the domain to be unlocked as
No problem and good security however the email I received told a different story:-
The document in question has to be mailed to them via snail mail along with a check and a photocopy of either my drivers license or passport and also has to be notarised.
The applicable service fee is $7.99 - more than my renewal fee with my registrar of choice.
Get real Powerpipe - don't get the hump and hang on to our domains just because you operate an inferior service and people want to transfer away from you - wise up and make your service more user friendly and appealing - that way people will want to stay with you!!
I have emailed them for an explanation as to why they are effectively 'ransoming' my domain - has anybody else had similar experiences with them or other registrars?
