Apple is planning a smaller version of iphone, based on ipod nano. Now I expect the full web page is much more difficult to display on a nano than on iphone because of the screen size. And this is where .mobi will shine.

How do you dial if there is no screen? A cellphone without a screen, common, how remote that could happen?

A lot of landline phones dont have screens and never did have screens until recently so you never know, apple could make a iphone shuffle with no screen, lol.

No screen means no internet access, how fun is that? Than it could be the only cellphone in the world that does not have the ability to access the internet.

Is it possible? Think about it.

What percentage actually use their phones for internet access or even pay extra money so they can get internet access?

Not many people want/have access the internet from their mobile phone today. That is for sure.

I am talking about tomorrow, the future, the not distant future. More people will surface the net using their mobile phones than they do with their PCs. I can't predict the future, but at least Japan and S. Korea prove my case, they already have more cellphone users browsing the internet.

The mobile internet will come in big way whether you like it or not. I admit though .mobi may or may not be successful with the big wave.

Unfortunately I think that .mobi isn't going to be the big wave because phones are getting smarter and some can even view a regular web page perfectly. The mob lie internet is the future.

Best of luck to you .mobi'ers!

vcool gets about 60k hits per day on dir.mobi with 60-80% being from mobile users. So that's 36,000-48,000 hits PER DAY from mobile users.

Mobile internet users are out there today and their ranks are growing daily. The facts are in, mobi works and mobile users like it once they learn about it.

c'mon guys. the shuffle comment was sarcastic as screen sizes were getting smaller to next to nothing. did get a chuckle out of you guys talking about the internet without a screen though. :)

Which phone can view an entire full website on its small screen perfectly? Every phone I see you have to zoom and scroll. Do you have one that does? There is no way that you can ever fit an entire full blown .com site on a mobile phone screen without zoom and scroll. You would need a microscope to see anything.

Ok, you don't like .mobi, that is fine with me. I am taking my chance and I may hit jackpot, or the worst case all my .mobi name will get renewed yearly by PPC income which is more than enough to handle my 200+ .mobis' annual fees.

So my risk is well adjusted, that is what the invest is all about, right?

Actually, the iPhone does it now, it shrinks the website down to fit in the screen, I used one.

But yeah, you do need a microscope to see anything. Or zoom in. And when you zoom in, then you have to scroll. And yes, it's a pain in the ***

the iphone doesnt fit a full website on the screen as if you were on your laptop. you have to zoom and scroll just like you said.

Yeah. ABSOLUTELY.

I didn't mean the whole tld will be a failure. I was just saying that a lot of it doesn't have good chances against it. :)

P.S. I'm not fighting you guys. I just said "good luck" above :D. lol

i havent used one, but safe to say that there will be a portion of users that will like it, right. i'd figure that they wouldn't release it without some focus groups liking it. Betcha Jobs likes to use it.

key becomes would some people rather use .mobis and/or at least some people rather use .mobis some of the time. that's a very easy thing to handle if we're visually appealing and offer good/new/easy content then there will be no funeral.

I am sure this has been discussed before, but imho, mTLD's focus should all be about the user experience.

Until manufacturers come out with durable fold-out LCDs (or even hologram projections), most people "on-the-go" are looking for useful (and simplified) applications from their mobile devices. A good example is dev.mobi. When I tested his mapquest app on my treo 700p and it actually worked (whereas mobile mapquest version did not!).

mTLD doesn't necessarily need killer mobile apps to succeed or nor does it need to "take-over" COM sites ; It simply needs to make sure that 80% of mobile devices can find useful functions from mobi sites let the critical mass grow for brand recognition.

my 2 pennies.

Thanks for the info, If they slim down to iPhone I might consider purchasing one. As it is, it is not something I want to try and carry in my pocket.
