Bought a new .io domain through sedo last week a NN.io , bit of an investment and gamble but worth a shot in my opinion.

Anyone investing in .io domains? please feel free to share your investments.

Cheers

As long as it starts with a good domain and the upgrade is used as one tool and not the full sales plan

Just sold SMS.io on Flippa yesterday for $7500. Decent domain + premium listing helped, but my own outbound marketing was the key, I think. The first couple of weeks it was only at $100 or so (even after premium listing) and then one evening I spent a lot of time contacting people who I thought would be interested, and the next day it was up to $4k.

I have found a really really good .io that is in pending delete status but isn't due to expire until 28th October 2015! How can this be? :S

the owner or registrar could have requested that it be deleted

It's a really good one though. I wonder, should I just add the backorder as it is available.. but it's showing as being deleted on 27-01-2016? :S

original.io went for $236 on flippa.

EDIT: I missed studentloans.io - $129 on flippa yesterday, too.

Much cheaper than I thought. I'm still trying to get my head around .io values, but of course it seems tech/geek related terms are doing very very well.. and then I see airforce.io over $2k. :S

I am continuing to add premium single word .io's, all relative in one way or another to either INPUT/OUTPUT, Computers, Computing, or the internet. I am avoiding single word domains that are outside of these areas for now, and I am avoiding most double word .io's

Here's a list of my best .io's-

Attachments
Transducer
Transducers
Calibration
Scanning
Multiplication
SpreadSheets
Wiring
Trigonometry
Inputting
Outputting
QuadCore
CPUS
Relays
MotherBoards
FlashDrives
FlashDrive
Processors
Quads
Throttling(Word directly related to the Input/Output idea)
InkJet
Chargers
Capacitors

I have about 5 or 6 others too

Morf, they have to be domains that a company would actually want to build their site/identity on.

Nobody is going to be Spreadsheets.io

Hope that helps you.

What's the attraction to AirForce.io????

Someone is paying way too much....

I wouldn't have even paid reg-fee for it.

So a place selling Computer Capacitors wouldn't use CAPACITORS? A Company dealing in Processors, wouldn't use the name PROCESSORS? I appreciate the advice, but I feel good about these ones, and I will be listing them in the coming days and weeks, we will see what happens

If you are the seller, do you care?? I know I wouldn't

We see what these .io's are selling for on Flippa in Auction format. Any way to see if any of them are selling in the classified section, and if so, for how much???

It still matters though that the payment goes through. Any bid can be made but what matters is payment.

Oh yeah, of course. We are assuming that we have a real and serious buyer that plans to pay

I have about 5 or 6 others too

1) Most of these names are not developed in the .com, .net, or .anything. If no company is interested enough to develop on the .com why would .io be of interest?

2) You're being very literal in the .io which is not the take-away many intend. The .io has the connotation of input output which invokes techie. That's techie as in cool/brandable. Look at .io domains that have sold or, more importantly, have substantial/any development. What do they have in common?

3) Real value. I saw erect.io didn't get bids over $20 this week on flippa. Erect means "build" and would make sense for a startup. That name is, imho, better than every name you have listed above. I was offered the name for $200 and did *not* take it. What does that say?

4) "avoiding most double word .io's" - that's good because there's an unlimited supply of them.

Good luck but I think you've got an uphill battle with these.

I've been corresponding with somebody that has done well with some .io Sales, and they gave me some opinions on some of these. Some he was very high on, and some he was not high on at all. He gave me his honest appraisals on the few he thought were good, and there are 3 that I am very hopeful about. Additionally, I grabbed 3 or 4 three letter .io's this week. All 3 of them in .com, recently sold for $30-$40k, so they may have interest in them. In the end, you may be right, but if the 2 or 3 he is very high on come thru, I'll be very happy!
