Hey guys,

I am officially a newbie at all of this domaining, and I am celebrating my first week in the business! I have learned a lot over the past week, and I have constantly been learning about the good, old LLLL.com!

However, I am eager to know what different people's investment strategies are when it comes to LLLL.com's. Is it most popular to buy a domain and instantly resell it if it was a good deal? Or do you buy the domain and hold onto it expecting prices to rise?

I currently own 19 LLLL.com, 11 LLLL.net, and I am waiting on another 16 .com's to be pushed to my accounts. I was simply wondering what most successful people do with their domains. Hold them? Resell them quickly? Upgrade the crappy ones for more premium ones?

I would just like to see different peoples take on this idea. Let me know how you do it!

Thanks,
Jeremiah

Welcome to the domain world :)

:imho: It is best to have a diverse but focused portfolio.

  1. Invest in sectors that you have knowledge abou
  2. Keep your speculative names to less than 10% of total names
  3. Park and optimize
  4. Optimize your parked names
  5. Names that you have parked should be optimized
  6. Tweak your optimized names on a regular basis
  7. Names that you will never sell should at least be built into mini sites
  8. Did I mention optimization??
  9. When possible good generic traffic names should be put in affiliate programs

My recommendation would be to SLOW down. Jumping into the game this quickly, and trying to get into the game after the bubble might cause more problems. I know its tough, but I would recommend reading the forum for a straight month before I would consider investing heavy.

On a side note. I personally buy and hold high end LLLL.coms. Premium letters, pronounceables, high quality letters.

I'm patiently holding many of them, and find a particular series of letters that I target after. For Instance, I like domains that end in CA..... or start with SD...

My pointers would be Research, Research, Research...
Also if you are bidding on a domain set a limit what you feel comfortable paying, and don't get caught in a bidding war.

Only invest in what you understand.

36 names in a week?

A lot depends on how much you have to invest, but you are leading with your wallet, which is a bad idea.

I, and many others here think LLLL.coms are still severely underpriced at current levels, but still, you will make much better moves the more you learn - and I mean months of study. Read back through the pages of this section.

As for strategy there are many, that is part of where the learning comes in. Although there are those who buy and sell (flip) in a constant effort to improve their portfolios, I prefer to buy and hold. What to buy is another question. The market has sorted itself out based on what people will pay for different kinds of LLLL.coms today, but those proportions may not be the same in the future. If you can find underpriced areas then you can exceed the overall trend.
