Alright, so I am crusing the web and I see this site that is parked and has one ad on it. So I send in an email asking how much they want. Check out this reply I got:

Hi, Jeff

Thank you for the offer.

We do not deal with individuals.
Most individuals are not aware of the importance of domain.
We want to sell this domain as to a company.

If you operate the company using this domain name,
We will convey this domain name to you willingly.

What's your opinion? please feel free to contact us.

Thank you.

JW Chang,

I personally could care less about the domain but I find this interesting as a sales tactic from the sellers end. Do you think selling exclusively to companies will guarantee more money or what do you think?

Selling exclusively to companies is a poor idea, because you are narrowing your already small market audience. Now, in theory, actual established companies have financial capabilities to buy a domain name for big money without giving it a second thought, and I am sure this is what they are figuing. Although I think its silly, I think BuyDomains has the right concept.

I think with the broken English, it is hard to assume the writer meant exactly what they said. I think they are simply trying to test the waters and see if you are indeed a company, or if you are a domain investor or broker who will know how to get a better deal out of them. By saying "What's your opinion?please feel free to contact us," they are obviously keeping the door open for negotiations.

http://www.namepros.com/1931836-post958.html has a great related story.

Because of many things he said in our conversation, I suspected that this 'couple' were actually working for a major corp somewhere, acting as a mom & pop business.

Shouldve dropped the hyphen, I would never have responded like that, lol.

hehe, what a funny coincidence.

To add on what I said earlier, they might also just be trying to make you feel insignificant so that they can push you to pay a higher price in the end.

I think that's what it is all about. So I am not gonna pursue this one any further. The guy has a korean email address so that explains the broken english.

Real dumb reply. Companies have lots of NO men and budget limits like maybe $2000 before they have to get their boss involved.

Those dreaded "individuals" could pay a lot more money and pay quicker than most companies.

I'm not sure as to the purpose of the reply unless they feel that this might drive up the value of the name. Otherwise, it doesn't really make sense unless they perhaps feel safer dealing with a company for some reason. I'm just not sure here.

It is often the case that the owner of a company will own the domain, not the company as this protects the owner from losing the domain if they lose the company.
