Redemption Grace Period for .de
For all .de domains, a so-called redemption grace period applies to deletion. This procedure protects domain owners from the unintentional loss of their domain through accidental deletion.

What is the Redemption Grace Period?
If the registration of a domain is ended, the deletion is followed by a waiting period of 30 days: the so-called Redemption Grace Period (RGP for short). The stay of the domain on maternity leave :xf.confused:(n)O_o:-P is free of charge. Within this period, the domain in question can only be registered again for the last domain owner or a third party designated by the last domain owner.

What does the LINEST mean for a deletion?
The domain is not immediately free after deletion and therefore cannot be immediately registered by third parties. Within the 30-day waiting period, the domain can only be registered again for the last domain owner or a third party designated by the last domain owner.

What needs to be considered when registering?
A domain cannot be registered by a third party as long as it is in the RGP. Only if the last domain owner or a third party designated by the last domain owner has not registered again after the 30-day waiting period has elapsed is the domain available for new registration by anyone interested.

How are domains in the RGP issued in the DENIC information services ?
Domains that are in the LINEST are output via the domain query with the following note:
The domain β€œ[Platzhalter] .de” was deleted on the DD.MM.YYYY and is currently on a grace period (Redemption Grace Period - LINEST) ,

How can a domain that is in the LINEST be registered again?
The waiting period enables the last domain owner to register the domain again through his former provider. Alternatively, this can also be done by another provider. To do this, the latter must change the provider with AuthInfo for this domain on behalf of the last domain owner to register the domain again .

To do this, the provider initiates the generation of the AuthInfo at DENIC (similar to: The existing provider cannot provide AuthInfo). The last domain holder receives the generated AuthInfo from DENIC by registered mail to the address stored in the domain data. At the same time, DENIC stores the generated AuthInfo encrypted in the domain database. The domain owner communicates the AuthInfo to the provider of his choice, whereupon the re-registration can take place.

The re-registration of a domain is associated with costs for the provider acting on behalf of the customer, so that these costs may have to be passed on to the domain owner.

Are there any exceptions to the RGP regulation?
The LINEST regulation does not apply in the following cases, among others:

  • For a domain that is in the RGP, the 30-day grace period can be waived if the last domain owner waives the Redemption Grace Period by expressly writing to DENIC.
  • If a domain is provided with a DISPUTE entry, the domain does not go into the Redemption Grace Period when the registration ends, but the DISPUTE owner becomes the owner of the domain directly.
