Hi Guy's,

I looking for a little market research here.

There has been alot said recently about Minisites, Dead Traffic (Doesnt Convert), Parking Revenue decrease etc.

I would like to know how many people on here if they had a domain with consistant traffic, not revenue just traffic that is 100% Direct Navigation would lease there domain?

Say you had a domain with 5000 hits per month and its only converting to a few hundred dollars, would you lease it out for say $250 a month? with a 3 month fixed contract or longer?

I would like to here everyones thoughts on leasing domains as I am thinking of starting to offer a service where my company approaches end users with domains that fit there products and offer to lease it to them for a fixed fee, ideally cheaper than what there adsense / marketing budget allows and hopefully at the end of the contract they shall see the power of direct navigation and want to buy the domain.

Let me know your thoughts and also let me know what % would you give of your lease fee to my company.

I look forward to hearing everyones thoughts.

Regards,

Rob

I've always liked the basic concept of leasing domains, though the devil will always be in the details.

Seems there was a lot of hype a while back about LeaseThis.com but have not heard much about them since the initial PR push. Anyone have any luck with them???

I think one of the biggest issues in developing a successful, active leasing market will be in proactively seeking out and promoting the domains (and their benefits) to end users on a truly ongoing basis -- something that (at least as far as I can tell) does not seem to happen much even in "big" dn auctions (despite what they may say otherwise).

My 2 cents...

its good on the short term
on the long term
i think its a very problematic issue,
sense doing SEO for web sites and bringing them traffic is a long term thing , so for example , i could lease a domain name , build great traffic , invest money on promoting it , get great ranking for many keywords and then one day the lease time will be over and the owner of the domain will not want to renew it , and what then ? all my hard work will be for nothing ,

i think that for the owner who rent it - its a great deal but iam not sure its such a good deal for the buyer

a good idea in my opinion to solved it , that in the contract the buyer will always have the option to buy the domain if he desire - in the agreed pre set price and the seller couldn't back out of it
in that case , the buyer part will not be afraid to invest money in developing sense he knows that if the site will take off he has the option to buy the domain permanently

I wouldn't lease for $250 with that kind of traffic. The price would be higher and would need to be looked at very closely to what it would cost to get the same traffic via paid advertising each month. Then take a little off the top with what it would cost for paid advertising so the domain looks better! :)

Leasing a domain with no/little traffic and leasing a domain with a good deal of traffic are two way different things imo.

Vibrators.com was leased at one point and it forced the co leasing it, into buying it for $1 Million due to the amount of traffic the domain was getting.

The contract for leasing would need to be well written with a premium generic or any lease really.

I'd lease my domains, but most companies are only interested in buying as most of my domains are priced in the $xxx-$xxxx range.
