.IN doesn't have to be India

While I was researching .IN names, I looked up what they have for "IN" in AcronymFinder.com. They sort the possible acronyms by rank (commonness), from most popular to least. Right behind "Indiana" and "Inches", was "Internet." Although :imho: "in." isn't used often as an abbreviation for Internet (I have never seen it before) I find this really interesting.

I suggest that we can brand Dot IN beyond a domain for India. .in domains can be registered by anybody worldwide at a reasonable cost (don't even think about this for the expensive $2000 ccTLDs). When you think about it, why can't we promote it as an alternative generic TLD like .cc, .ws, and .tv.

But still .in domains are officially belong to India.Even though people may use it for other purposes.

My only concern is "Indian Laws".
Use it as you like it within the limits of Indian Laws. As technically registry is in India.

This could be the stongest cctld in the future as India continues to experience explosive economic growth.

That said, the inherent potential to develop sites branding the .IN as 'Internet' etc only adds to the viability and strength of this extension.

Like the current promotional methods for .TV CCTLD, Indian registry can promote the CCTLD as Internet/International/Incorporate/etc.. to attract more global audience.

Already several CCTLDs are being promoted as popular identities, such as

I think a developed .in or .co.in is worth 10 ads for the TLD per se...
