While I was researching .IN names, I looked up what they have for "IN" in AcronymFinder.com. They sort the possible acronyms by rank (commonness), from most popular to least. Right behind "Indiana" and "Inches", was "Internet." Although :imho: "in." isn't used often as an abbreviation for Internet (I have never seen it before) I find this really interesting.
I suggest that we can brand Dot IN beyond a domain for India. .in domains can be registered by anybody worldwide at a reasonable cost (don't even think about this for the expensive
$2000 ccTLDs). When you think about it, why can't we promote it as an alternative generic TLD like .cc, .ws, and .tv.
