Well after all the hype and hoopla and support ive had over the years trying to support other tlds its now time to admit, IF YOU DONT OWN THE DOT COM YOU DONT HAVE MUCH!

Dot com dot com dot com

No other will do, no other will take its place, no other has its value, no other has a chance against it!!!

I don't care if its now or 20 years from now if you don't own the dot com you are setting yourself up for a loss period end of story!

So to all you newbies, save your $$$$ now and buy or hand reg ONLY dot coms cause if you don't you will find you messed up bigtime!

I only own one; the third most important. The two other names .live are reserve. And I got the number 3. I know this one will not die :) it's a premium name .

.depends on how you define "popular". If popular is having the most registrations maybe. End-user usage? Not really. .TK is one of the most popular extensions according to these metrics

The number of developed .xyz sites is still rather small according to the Alex top 1 million. .org has still tons of websites that won't go away anytime soon.

top isn't neutral which limits it's usage and prevents mass adaption. Not everyone wants to be "top".

It looks silly and unprofessional in many cases when you call yourself top. If you have a brand you either need a neutral extension or the extension needs to fit your brand. .

.gdn doesn't have any real meaning for most or possible uses beside some niches.(Maybe geographic like GuangDong?)

Who wants to torture their customers with a .gdn domain? Find us under drw.gdn Don't remember? Why not? We upgraded from our 6L drwgdn.com to a short 3L

Control is the Communist Party's top priority. Business is only second, and when it comes to business, China focuses on promoting state-owned Enterprises and local conglomerates like Tincent, and taking market share from US companies like Amazon, Facebook, Google, etc. The 1st step is to block them from competing in their domestic market. The next step is to compete for International markets (starting to be released in the media now)

If they want to block foreign companies they will block your beloved .xyz too.

You are betting on the wrong extension then. If you believe they will ban foreign companies to promote their local businesses you need to buy .cn.

I don't really invest in new gtld's but to people that have...

Is anyone making a killing with them? I'm curious.

Some domainers are reporting $$$ sales, sometimes $,$$$.
Member Kohsamui is among them, maybe the only one who is consistently making sales.

But you can easily achieve similar sales in .com so why take a chance and bother with new extensions.
Exceptions always happen but you can't build a valid business model on lottery.

True, which is why i only own .com names.

I'am tempted to get a .io ...give me a one word .io that symbolizes a game concept(slither, agar, shooter etc)

It is good to own great .coms, and good to own great new gtld's combinations (with non-premium renewals)..these 2 options are not against each other :)

Now listen @mad409 think about this for a while, there's a lot of members here don't want you to go !

You're correct, I was being childish and it was a long day. No excuses though and after a break all is good.
Sorry for the derail// mods but wanted to respond, TY.. :xf.smile:

What do you mean they never heard of cctld's. Most people don't know what the term cctld means, but Most have heard of the cctld for their countries, such as .us, .ca, etc.. I agree .com is pretty much the default extension of the internet.

If I might ask, what are some of the nice .com's that you own?

I would love to review a list of 100 domains that you own and compare it to mine.

I'm interested to see if you have valuable one-word domains or 2 to 3-word junk .com domains with bad grammar and misspells. @artstar

dot com is pretty much the default ext on the net? say what????

man alive that's a bit of an understatement don't u think???

my point is cctld gtld etc the majority of people have no clue what the term means even if they heard of .ca etc

btw .us is not even worth mentioning as an example imo

you should try asking people to visit "website dot word" to see how many even understand it is a domain?

Recent data dump of 80 weeks worth of sales from DomainNameSales / Uniregistry very instructive as to relative strength of dot-com vs. competitors both in volume/value...

http://dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm

Quote:

.Coms swept 23 o the 25 chart entries with Sedo and Michael Mann's DomainMarket able to plant their flags alongside Uniregistry - Sedo doing it was #3 (tie) 1396.com at $60,000 and DomainMarket scoring with #15 AnimalsUnited.com at $39,000 (a domain Michael said he picked up for just $12 in 2012!).

The only non .com's on the elite list are a pair of .orgs sold by Uniregistry - #10 Ohio.org at$45,000 and #12 AssistedLiving.org at $40,000.

25% of the gross revenue (Adsense) I make on minisites or live sites, is on a .us name - it was the only major TLD back then, and the keyword (oxycodone) was more important to simply get to the market (live online) that start fuddling with a variant in .com - yes I did of course research for .com options, but the .us fit perfectly in that case.

As a Canadian, I can say that .ca is *very* highly regarded by consumers and end-users... and I think the same is true for .de / .fr / co.uk and many other ccTLDs.

So I think a blanket statement for .com is way overreaching - just my $0.02

(Yes I have several .coms heheh)
