I started domaining because i caught with an old friend who told me he was working at a registrar where people reg website address's ???

He explained that some people reg a 'typo' and make money off it , he also said that after the 'tech bust' of 2000 that the internet would make a comeback .... big time and that kids were growing up with it and it was here to stay

I didn't think much of the registering of 'typos' idea and i really got the bug after discovering sedo and seeing that there was a market for this type of investment , and then discovering namepros was the icing on the cake

Why did you start domaining ???

I already knew about domaining 9 years ago but at that time i thought that market was over that all good domains were taken.

When i was in yahoo chat, someone sent me a link to earn money,i followed that link but that was a waste link but it was given an idea that it is possible to earn some money through internet.when i was marketing that link some other person sent me an other link that was also a waste link.like this..........................i came here.

...but I have registered some great .me and .tel domains; I really did my research for these TLDs and only regged premiums. I have other premium and some speculative .tels on GA backorder; if they go to others, so be it.

dracula911 isn't that terrible. you see much worse in the appraisals section lol

giving fictional characters their own web sites is a creative marketing ploy, i'm glad i heard that

Few years back, i was searching for some products and end up in a parked page and it was showing top of the page as "this domain is for sale $30000.00". from that link i started domaining.

More over i liked domaining, most of the other online professions needs to pro qualification and skills but in the case of domaining no specific qualification required.

I accidentally came through an article that lists great domain sales, so I decided to get into the game. Few days after that, I registered a domain for $10.xx and sold it to an investor for $1,900 only 14 days after :)

I don't claim to be an expert in domaining; I'm still new to it, but I have to admit it's an interesting business.

That's awesome. What a great way to be introduced to the market! I wish I had that kind of luck, haha.

Thanks, dbtbandit67.

The websites started out as a defensive move--I didn't want to give out someone else's website or take my reader to a dead site. I got the idea from David Mamet's State and Main (2000); the director regged a domain (I think Bazoomer[dot]com) that was part of the movie, but nothing was developed on it. I thought, "Why not take the next step?"

Had the movie been filmed later, I'm sure something would have been on it, and the film might have been more than just a cult following.

:)

It's kind of fun to assume another persona...

I started domaining when I was going through divorce!! I was looking for a domain to create a website that basically gave info on the "Do's and don'ts" based on my own experiences.
Whilst surfing for info on how to register a domain, I came across Sedo and realised that there was money to be made.

i started domaining because before that i am a online auction seller.then i wanted to create a ecommerce website n i research bout websites, hosting n domain of course..

Then i got to know some domainers via namepros in nov 2005.n someone sold a domain which only cost him 30usd n he sold it for 15000 usd n i started researching in domain names. in march 2006 i went all in after ive done my research n snowballed my money by domain flipping..sold i think at least XXXX LLLL.coms with at least triple to XXX times of what i paid for. then i also got to know domain parking n regged n bought a lot revenue domains for a steady income apart from domain flipping n selling.

3 years as a full time domainer now..n i am happy with it n never regretted ever since..

I actually started over a year ago writing a book on trying to treat buying and selling vacant land as a commodity. I was using eBay for my research and ended up buying over 150 properties solely using eBay. Of course Real Estate crashed since then, LOL! But while I was doing my research I stumbled across "virtual real estate", or domains on eBay. I was so intrigued by it I jumped into the business with both feet on November, 2007. I have never stopped. Of course I branched out to many sites beyond eBay. I started out with investing in domains, especially focusing on 4L coms and 3L coms, but soon realized that I was putting too much money holding those domains and not being able to use any cash flow from it. I did get lucky and sold a couple of $XX,XXX 4L's to end users and several less than that, but it's a tough way to make a living when you have over $500K sitting there doing nothing.

As I continued to work in my main line of work (as an independent systems architect for Fortune 500 companies), that fed me revenue to explore domaining at a much deeper level. I started researching traffic domains, especially in the area of expired domains. After several months I finally mastered the craft of locating the right domains to bring ongoing revenue. Iโ€™m achieving a good $XXX,XXX annual revenue solely from parking which will allow me to quit my day job (which required constant travel and 70+ hour workweeks). And no, Iโ€™m not the $3,000 daily domainer, LOL!

I have since been in the process of writing a 250 page extensive book on how to tap into traffic domains, not directed toward domainers, but to non-techie people in the world. I really felt this process could be "dumbed down" and applied to anyone, as long as they knew how to surf the web. By the way, the book is called โ€œMillions Foreverโ€.

More importantly, I am in the process of developing a traffic engine with recommendations for the 50,000 drops that occur every day by applying 15 business rules. This site is really geared toward non-users. The site will have many other features, but Iโ€™m not here to plug anything.

My world domination goal (ha ha) is to bring global awareness of domains by targeting non-techie people โ€“ retirees, housewives, college students, etc.. I donโ€™t want to give competitors an edge on how weโ€™re doing that, but itโ€™s going well โ˜บ

Sorry, I am not trying to sell you anything; just wanted to let you know that domaining can be a great way to make a living. Where else can you still make money in this global economy?

I am so glad that I decided not to continue to follow the pack of investing in real estate, but to be among those that are at the front of the pack with monetizing expired domains (which I believe is the second wave to riches after the Frank Schillings, Rick Latonas and Yung Yeโ€™s of the world, or in other words, the Domain Gods!).

Great thread by the way!
