I received an email off a Sedo broker about one of my domains

I'm in two minds about replying to it, as I regard the domain as one of my "keepers." I get reasonable PPC off it and am not that bothered about selling it, and there's always potential problems with the UDRP and admitting you want to sell a domain.

But they have got me curious about the offer, slightly. I assume when I'm being contacted by a personal broker, that we're talking about a fair amount for them to make this effort. Any idea what the minium offer might be? $500? $1,000?

Basically what I'm trying to ascertain is what is the minimum amount Sedo would concern itself in this way, and whether anyone on here has any idea. I'm not really asking for an evaluation on the domain itself. I suspect what they're offering would be quite a bit less than what I'm prepared to take for it anyway. I'm just curious more than anything.

Sorry if I sort of want my cake and eat it, so to speak, by not chipping up more info. :D

you mentioning UDRP is there a concern someone could take this name as it's a trademark?
If there is no fear of that I would respond that I am not looking to sell as I have development plans for the domain but I would be open to hear what someone has offered.
If there is a concern then yes an anonymous offer even through Sedo broker could bite you in the rear as they could save the Sedo response and present it as evidence.

I don't think so, I'd think I'm safe as it's generic. But I've seen generic words and phrases trademarked, and I personally would put it's value quite a bit over a UDRP fee, so there's always someone might try it. I'm pretty sure there was no trademarks on it when I regged it though. I've had it a several years. I just wouldn't want the potential hassle, even the likelihood is low, IMO.

These tend to be serious enquiries. Mine ended up being a final offer for $40,000 (which I crazily turned down).

Yes, when a Sedo broker contacts you, its an offer/enquiry for a domain from a client they have.


I had one from a Sedo broker that actually stated in the initial email that, whilst he had a client interested in my name, he wanted to check with me what price range I had in mind in case the client's budget was unrealistic......code for 'I think my client's budget is unrealistically low for this domain'....Lol....And, so it proved...


On the other hand, I heard recently about a domainer that had an approach from a Sedo broker about a name....The domain was a name the domainer got for reg fee, and happily negotiated a sale price with the broker of $1000....Nice....

....He later found out the buyer was a giant Telecommunications company....!! ...He felt he'd missed a big opportunity in selling for $1000.


So, a Sedo broker can be looking to buy on behalf of anyone....But, if a Sedo broker approaches you, I'd assume he has a fair-sized buyer behind him...

Just a thought.

I recently sold a name after being approached by a Sedo broker. (People who know my background will know I had to avoid using Sedo for many years until recently.) Was a good experience. My advice is just decide the reasonable price that would make you happy and give it to them. What's the worst that could happen? No deal?

No, you misunderstand, it's not actually listed at Sedo, I'm not actually actively selling it at present, because I'm happy to hold on to it for the PPC.

This was a direct communication from them after I assume they whoised my email address.

Doubt the offer would be in that league, although I am very tempted to inquire now :D.

I’m confused. On the one hand, you are happy to keep it for PPC and on the other you are concerned about the potential problems with the UDRP. Whether it is parked or a minisite, people will click the links you are concerned about.

let the sedo agent do the work for you, I am sure they get paid more on a close, you have to keep talking them and communicating trying to get a top range out of them.
