By and large, most people would say that the iPhone has been a resounding success for Apple, but interest in the multi-touch mobile phone is starting to wane. During MacWorld, Apple announced that they had sold four million iPhones to date, of which only 900,000 were activated by AT&T during the fourth quarter.
This was not quite as impressive as the five million unit mark that some industry pundits were predicting and Toni Sacconaghi, financial analyst, attributes the lower figure to a "dip in the demand for the iPhone and AT&T is piling up the stocks." Sales have "slackened", and it could be because people are already waiting for a 3G model. It could also be because other similar options have become available, like the LG Voyager, HTC Touch, and Samsung Armani.
