I have a question about renewal

Just an example:
I have a friend, he registered a domain for me many years ago. I only know the domain name. He didn't tell me the account and email password he used to register. But now I don't know where he is...... The domain will be experied in a few days, of course I do not want to see it be robbed by someone else.
Can I renew the domain without the original email address? Just make a new payment......

hmm i dont know either.. dont he has a phone number??? or do you know any friends of him? family??? try to search him on google.. or his old school.. or whatever... if its a great name i would do anything to keep it !!

what if you try to request a transfer?

If your registerar refund your money for unsuccessful transfer, then it does not hurt to try.

Without access to the email address listed in the whois or the login details of the holding registrar, your best bet is to try and find the friend. If that doesn't work and the name is not very high profile, you probably have a good chance of catching it when it drops. Check out backorder services if you can't find the friend.

maybe try sending an email to [email protected]e he will see that email and even if he does not have a webmaster username email setup, it may forward all emails on the domain to his inbox

Nothing you can or should do except contact your friend.

You can wait for the expiration date and try the drop service but any attempt to gain control of the name without your friend consent before the expiration date is called "hijacking".
