I got lucky last night

Well it happened to me last night. Somebody just out of the blue contacted me offering me full price of sedo listing. No negotiation.

First I thought it was a scam cus the guy was from over-over many seas & with the promise of maybe wanting to buy other names too. Well now with payment at paypal I am negotiating about those other names too.

The interesting part of this story was that the name he wanted had expired 7-31. and I was going to let it go. So I quickly logged into godaddy and luckily was able to still renew - without penalty or hassle.

So there is hope. We will get lucky at times. The name was 365 Reach .com and was listed and went for $90.

Just wanted to share this story as proof that there is hope - even for your expired names - but you gotta be lucky.

The other name specifically that he wanted was another one just renewed by accident. I guess I still have a few names on autorenew. (sucks) But I guess if this one is sold too then I wont complain.

I quite often get offers for names just after renewal. I think a lot of people wait to see if you are going to let it drop and when you don't they get on it.
I have even had a buyers mail me and offer me good money for an expired name. They didn't want to risk someone else getting it so it was a sure thing if I renewed and pushed to them...This really can be fun sometimes....

Not to mention the fact that drop names are invariably more expensive (due to added fees and such) and more of a hassle than to just buy it from a previous or current handler.

ive offered the listing price on sedo domains with no sale with a low listing of $90 i think you can see why you would offer the full 90 rather than 60.

Maybe THE big lesson here is to let the names expire - well just enough so that they might hit some lists - but not enough so you can't renew them.

Also it is important to know that some registars like the sucky Hostway drops your name the minute it expires. GoDaddy waits at least a couple of weeks. SO this would be a bit of a risky tactics but I will from now on let all my names that I am not crazy about atleast go a little past their due date before re-regging - if that what I choose to do. I will for sure let the board here know if this works with other names.

Note to self - ask buyer how he found the name in the first place.

The buyer may have been worried if he did not contact you and made an offer he may not have got the domain for the price he paid you now in the future...
