In the past 1.5 years I have had over 50 offers on my names at SEDO. About 15 of them were accepted and out of those 15, only 2 actually sent in the money. Each transfer / escrow took months before i got my money.
On the other hand I have received about 20 offers from afternic and accepted about 15 of them. Out of those 15, 12 of them sent the money in. I have had some very quick transfer / escrow transactions with afternic (when the buying party knew what they were doing), and I have had some that took months as well.
I have even sold names at Afternic that were parked on SEDO (found thru nameboy.com or other data bases). The problem with SEDO is its Free to make a bid. If I saw a domain that I wanted to buy and it was for sale on Afternic and SEDO, I would negotiate my heart out on SEDO for free (using a webmail from one of my domains) to see the lowest price the buyer will go. Then wait a while and make an offer on Afternic.
I am currently up to 2700 domains now (2000 of them are poker domains) and I receive emails (from the who is) about selling the domain. 90 percent of my poker domains are parked at Fabulous and I DO NOT have the domain for sale sign on them because I really think it hurts the PPC when a visitor sees the Domain For Sale. We (as domainers) dont see the web/internet as most of the newer people who surf the internet. If I were not an expreinced surfer and i went to a landing page that had "domain for sale" and sponsored links... I would think its like buying something from a company that is about to go out of business or be sold.
The first think I do when I receive an email about somebody wanting to purchase or inquire about one of my domains, I do a search on Google.com and vroosh.com to see if there is any info about this person before I respond with an amount for sale ( i search the email address or the name if given). Once I searched the email on google and found a post from the potential buyer who was unemployed and asking for free assistance in Java Script... so I knew where he stood. If I receive and email from somebody like
[email protected] , then I do a search for betmaker.com and learn as much about the company "betmaker" before I respond to the offer.
When dealing with a offer at SEDO / Afteric you know nothing about the potential buyer and that puts you at a big disadvanatge when negotiating the sale.
