Hyphenated domain name vs non-hyphenated domain name. Or both?

Let's take a real-life example - I won’t mention the domain name here.

You just raised around $1 million using a hyphenated domain name, yet the non-hyphenated version isn’t even registered.

Should you register it today? Or does it not really matter?

I'd have registered such domain name like...20 minutes ago already. Spend €6 on a hand-reg and think later - unless it's obviously trademarked (which I'd still check first). ))

If i own that non hyphenated one, i would Register the hyphenated as well for 10 years. ~$110$+. Thats okay

Both. Always.

Hyphens have multiple use cases, e.g., they can add clarity in billboard marketing.

I stay away from hyphens like the plague

Hyphens can cause programming errors. I got burned by overinvesting in hyphens and I have chose to stay away since then. Not all programmers respect hyphens and so many sites and apps have problems with hyphens.

@VURG Interesting. Can you share an example?

X.com user handles and hashtags. They only support alphanumeric terms. This sort of thing can be problematic when you want your social media handle to match your website name.

Very good catch. The Lovable CEO’s X status (@lovable_dev) actually had that issue before, it wasn’t working.
I reported it and they later fixed it.
