I have read hyphens are popular in Japan with numbers as well as words . The biggest problem with a hypen is TRADEMARKS. Be sure to check before purchase.

Great point. Thanks for your input my friend.

Wrong thread, but on this Las Vegas thing...

This was published for opposition just a couple weeks ago and isn't just the words:

They are very specifically trading marking the logo. Not the name of the city.

Hi guys,

What do you think Las-Vegas.com is worth?

Best,
Frans

A hyphenated name like that is still worth a fair bit

I sold Las-Vegas.co for $1100 a while back

You are correct. What is more important is USE and FIRST USE IN COMMERCE.

Promoting the Las Vegas, Nevada area as a destination for leisure and business travelers. FIRST USE: 20030416. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 20030416

URLU- If you owned Las-Vegas.com before 4.16.2003 no claim bad faith reg. After, yes. Add, It should be obvious, = confusingly similar.

Promoting the Las Vegas, Nevada area as a destination for leisure and business travelers.

Owner of Las-Vegas.com cannot use as a site promoting the Las Vegas, Nevada area as a destination for leisure and business travelers.
May be good as a collectible. Good Luck using it for anything else. Good Luck with the STATE.
If you research udrp decisions and trademark law you will find this to be true.

21x20, do you have any ideas for it's use that doesn't conflict ?

Las-Vegas.co is a bit different as it can be used for a company in las vegas that doesn't promote as a destination for leisure and business travelers.
Cheers

Again, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a mark for a LOGO -- a visual depiction of the words Las Vegas as describe in the mark, again copied here:

Description of Mark Color is not claimed as a feature of the mark. The mark consists of the words "LAS VEGAS" in stylized form where the letters "L", "A" and "S" are featured inside three shaded, overlapping rectangles above the word "VEGAS". The letters "EGA" of "VEGAS" are underlined.

As such, I believe the trademark is solely on the use of this graphical representation of the words LAS VEGAS as described -- specifically "stylized".

Again, they are not attempting to trademark the city's name nor are they trying to prevent it's use in promoting the city itself -- that would be a little crazy as every hotel and destination IN Las Vegas would no longer be able to refer to the city people were coming to. They'd have to be like "come to where we are and just see what it is." Of course that'd never be allowed by any business or travel destination in vegas that wanted to be able to promote themselves and the city as a destination. ;)

This is a mark specific to the stylized representation of the words -- NOT the words themselves.

Hope this helps.

This.

Read the trademark. It's not for words it's for a picture i.e. a logo.

Anyone trying to trademark "Las Vegas" for tourism, should be denied on Absolute grounds. If it does pass, I would expect no company would be successful in using it offensively against anybody else.

No, no it's not.

The point is the type of mark.

Not a word mark. They are not trademarking the name of the city. Sorry. You are completely wrong. ;)

Thanks everyone for your kind and helpful replies! Indeed the trademark is for the logo. I do not think it is even possible to trademark a city or country name right, that would be crazy indeed. If that was possible I would trademark the words "United States of America" or something like that. Btw Las-Vegas.com has been owned since 1995 by the same owners and has never before been for sale to my knowledge. But right now we are selling it on Flippa for the first time.
