How would someone get your e-mail if you have Privacy enabled?

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on how someone can get your e-mail from the whois if you have privacy (Moniker) on this domain? I received an e-mail on this domain asking if I was interested in selling the name.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that someone was able to contact me, but it's very strange. The name is registered at Moniker with privacy and I'm using parked(com) for parking.

Please help!

Thanks!

Maybe someone associated with either Moniker or Parked (or from the Parked landing page itself?) ... I agree, it's not a bad thing to be contacted with a potential offer; did you register this domain name (and use Whois privacy) to NOT try to sell it?

All the best,

Was the name on privacy from the moment you owned it or tacked on later. Are you using the parked "contact me" option?

The parked landing page doesn't show my e-mail. It does have a link that will let them inquire about the name 'This domain may be for sale. Please contact us for more information.'. This is the way that I would have expected someone to contact me.

I added the privacy after I aquired the name. The privacy may have expired for a number of weeks before I put it back on. I suppose they could have used domaintools(com) to do a lookup if they happened to capture that information.

Thanks

What is the email in the whois?
I thought maybe they just use those long unique privacy emails in whois as sort of email masking but it can still reach the domain owner.
Maybe that is just on some registrars and not all, not really sure right now!

Then that link would go to the email you joined parked.com with. This may be how

^ That's probably your answer ... folks can be resourceful if the need arises IMHO; what's the domain name (and its $ asking price)?

Good Luck,

did you forward your privacy email to your real email?

Email to the address which is displayed in whois. Whois privacy protection is supposed to resend that if needed.

You guys are correct. The e-mail address under the whois '[email protected]' will forward to your e-mail you have on file with the registrar.

I've never received an e-mail this way so I had no idea that this is the way it works. I guess that's good that you still will get the e-mail. I always wondered how that worked

Thanks again!!
