Do any of you has regularly sell your domain to end users? If so, do you mind share with me in this thread on how find potential end users for your domain?

He says it's for a 1099 but I'm not sure that I would have to do it that way. I always read here that people sell names for over $1k and never hear of the enduser asking for ssn.

He already has my domain. I transferred first like joshuapz does. Now who knows.

Why didnt you use Sedo, and let him pay the fee? If he is so interested in buying your domain name, he would accept it.

I always use Sedo Escrow service (you dont have to have listed your domain names with them).

I think its an USA thing? I never heard of a 1099 before. Is it used for Tax or something like that?

U.S. tax law requires businesses to submit a Form 1099 for every contractor paid at least $600 for services during a year


You are not a contractor, and you are selling a product not a service. There is an underlying cost to that product, and a 1099 is not appropriate for a domain sale.

I'm not a tax professional, but you would need to put claim the income for tax reasons.

However, make sure you offset the income with any commissions you paid, reg fees, hosting, amount paid for the name etc. Works the same as a hobby buying and selling baseball cards or something else.

My advice is to have your taxes professionally done next year.

Thanks for the info guys. I didn't give the ssn. I'm going to save all the paperwork from purchases and sales for taxes this year. Hopefully I make many more sales.

After several attempts I sold my first name by contacting an end user today. I don't want to mention the name or price just that it works. :sold:

Congrats on your first sales! Contacting end-users could be frustrating sometimes. I dont mind "no", but i hate when i get no answer what is the case most the time. I understand that they dont want to waste their time on answer if are not interested, but i dont like this anyway :D

Yesterday i sold domain to end-user who will just redirect it for $350, regged it for $8 few hours earlier. Not some great sale, but great ROI and it is nice when you get quick answer on your email and even better when you get the money in a few hours :)

I have sent out like 50 emails total for about 10 different domains and have only received 3 replies; 1 which led to a sale and another that could've but I scared the guy away with price. The third reply was a "Not interested but have a great day".

often your emails either end up in spam folder, or some dumbo reads it but consider it as spam and doesn't understand what you are talking about and doesn't understand that you handpicked that company and some others, because they genuinely could be interested. (dumbo .oยฐ "what?selling domain name?wtf?spam!")

just move on and don't expect more than 1 answer for 100 emails.

Very nice Legitime, I just sent a follow up email to an enduser who had responded "too expensive" and reduced my price by more than half. Lets see if he responds.

I hope you make a sale. Sometimes you can add make me a highest offer that you feel most comfortable with and please note that any offer will be considerate.Sometimes you cant :)

If i receive such a reply, i always ask them what their desired price is. I don't recommand to make such an extreme price cut (halve the price or even more!) immediately after receiving a "too expensive" reply. That only gives them the impression that the name is not worth much if you (seller) are ready to do such a price cut so fast just because of a "too expensive" reply. In no other business will you receive such a price reduction. Therefore that only makes your position very weak right at the start of negotiations.

Just my 2cents and my own experience.

edit: to be more detailed. when you receive a "too expensive" reply, that means the company is interested but would like to have better (or much better) price. Now if you reply with a question how much they were thinking about, normally they HAVE to give you a price (because of their first comment) otherwise they look stupid (why saying "too expensive" if you are not interested at all ? in that case you just say "no thanks"). and after you receive their second reply (a price, even if its too low), that paves the way for a Sale!
But if you reply with a much lower price than your first email, you might get such a reply "hmm, i thought about the whole thing and sorry i am not interested in this domain".

hope you understand what i mean.

One thing you could do if selling to a computer store or anything is ask if they will give you a discount for their products equal to the reduction they expect from you...it is cheeky but it gets the point across that you are not there to waste your time or hand over your property to anyone for next to nothing. If nothing else you might get a computer for 50% less than the ticket lol

Often a 20-30% reduction on your domain price can be negotiated if you want and should be, no one ever pays by rate card when the price is not fixed and if they do they would go out of business.

The only thing you have to remember in any business deal of any sort is that you have a service they want, they have a service you want and neither of you have to give up so much to the other.

ALL businesses negotiate on prices, it is the nature of the beast but no one reduces their prices by 50%+ unless they are having a fire sale. If the domain is of good quality and there are a few end users you should be able to negotiate something...even if it is good service in the future.

I can clarify what you mean if you don't mind..

For the questionee, if you went to someone and asked how much a jacket was and you got told that you could buy it for $1000 and then 2 seconds later the salesman was throwing the same jacket at you for less than $500 you would be wondering what the catch was; no one gives a price cut that drastic except for Kirby vacuum salesmen that lock you into paying for years for a service you do not need.

You may have given them a great discount, but it will only panic them and wonder if you can do it then what is the catch and why are you trying to offload it so fast.

I still stick to my advice of trying to negotiate a price cut for yourself on their services equal to what they get out of you...people love to win and this makes the game so much more fun and also opens up lines of communication in other ways, always try to think outside of the box in anything you do and try to think up a service they weren't expecting.

thats a brillant idea. specially for products you need and wanne buy anyway. and i can imagine that such a suggestion to the potential DN buyer would drastically increase his interest to buy the domain name. not only because he can save money, but that also increases your trustibility. this idea never occured to me. repped. though, of course thats not possible for all type of domains. you don't want to (and can't) buy each and every product in the world.

anyway, will try it out the next time i want to sell an adult name to a cathouse LOL (j/k), i mean electronics related name of course :hehe:

Hey guys I appreciate all the advice but I got it for reg fee and he just countered my $300 with $150 which I happily accepted. If I sold for that much profit everytime I would be glad. Now to see if I can close it for my 2nd sale ever!
