Just wanted to clarify: when using godaddy backorder credits to backorder domains, you lose the chance to apply promo codes right?

How would you go about contacting a enduser for a fortune 500 company?

Yes. if GoDaddy capture the domain, you will find it in your account including 1 year registration.

If you just registered a domain, should you wait 60 days to pitch it to possible end users due to the fact that it can't be transferred out of that registrar, or do end users not care, and will gladly make a free account at the register you have it at?

Most don't seem to mind, but some do. No way to predict so I typically don't wait.

Unique Situation

Several days ago I contacted a potential buyer for one of my names. I was unable to complete a sale, but he was impressed by my attitude and as a "gift" to me he gave me a list of 100+ names and email addresses of his business contacts that also are domain buyers.

There are alot of people on the list that I have no idea what type of business they are in, or what type of domain they might be interested in so I would like to just pitch my entire portfolio to each of them. The problem is, I don't know how to go about doing that. I don't have a website that lists my names (I wish I did).

How in the world can I pitch roughly 150 names to 100+ potential buyers?

Thanks to some kind of Sedo screw up, I'm only able to park about half my names there so I can't use that link.

Pitching a .net or any other extension besides the .com, how the HELL do you suggest we do this? Everyone knows what to say about a .com but what types of benefits does the other extensions offer to a company?

Amy,

You should go to blogger.com and set up a quick blog and post your list of names on it, with a semi-personal message stating that (your original prospect's name) recommended that you contact them to show them your domains. You can do this in less than 10 minutes. You'll then have a list to show those prospects.

Thank you so much, Gene. That is exactly just what I need :)

I tried repping, but I'm already too fond of you :(

It might also be well worth your time to do a bit of Google research on the email addresses, could go a long way & pay off bigger than merely blasting out a mass email to the whole list. It's going to take much longer but if you target some of the prospects with appropriate information it would typically pay off much better.

best of luck

I agree with this 100%.
More you know about potential buyer, better results you get including higher selling prices ;)

I think I need a bit of help with this one.

I found an aftermarket domain, registered in 03 so it will retain its registration date. It's a short .com. I intend to flip it to the owner of the .net and .fr versions of the domain (and likely a few others). They registered theirs in late 03 and early 04, after the .com was registered. They are a large European company with 700+ employees and $15mil sales according to Hoovers.com (their own website reports much larger figures).

Now there are a few other businesses with the same name should this one not bite, but if they do, how should I price the domain?

How much did you acquire the domain for?

Hey,

I've been trying this lately and had a sale today, two in the last 4 days. I looked for strong 2 word keywords and did a whois on all double hyphen names. Example. SexMovies.com, I approached all Double Hyphened domains like Sex--Movies.com, Car--Accessories.com, etc. It's working for me.

I agree with this 100%.

I have got one reply to my e-mail from an end-user. How would you reply to this one, guys? I plan to make an offer later in the future with a reduced price but now I would like to sound positive about my domain and increase the probability of the sale in the future to this end-user. Here's his response:
Thanks for your email.
In this economic climate we're not interested, sorry. But see how you go with your other contacts and if no good come back to me, we might reconsider and make you an offer.
Regards,
Name

That's good news that you may make a sale even though it may be a smaller one. I would recommend waiting at least a few weeks though so it doesn't look like you are desperate to sell.

Cheers

My response would go something like this, with the proper editing, grammar, etc...

Yes, In light of the recent economic situation, many are cutting back on expenditures they deem unnecessary. With that said, give us an offer that you would consider within your budget we'll evaluate it. If it meets with our approval, we can proceed.

However, if we do not hear from you within say a week, we'll assume you need more time to make an honest decision and will contact with within the timeframe you specified.

Kind Regards,
Calvin
