If I start domaining, and kept my day job, so wasn't doing it full-time.

What kind of income would the average person make after 6months?

How much would i have to spend too?

Thanks!

You could literally make a part time job out of just educating yourself on what constitutes value in domain names. Before you jump in, read up on the industry. The fact that your here is a great start as Namepros is loaded with info that can help you get off to a potentially profitable start. So many newcomers dive in with misconceptions of "good" domains and wind up losing capital right from the start. I know its tempting to spend the $8 to register what seems like a good idea, but there's sooo much more to it than that. My signature links to my domaining blog below, which is dedicated to the newcomer. I've written a few posts that might steer you in the right direction. My best advice to you is READ UP!

Welcome to the industry and Good Luck!

Cheers :)

Between zero to a million in answer to both questions.

I think it should be mandatory to read DNPros and DomainNewbie (and Flo's blog) for at least 3 months before you purchase your first domain. Ask questions on here also. You've got to build up your knowledge before you invest, just like any other investment.

If you start domaining now in six months you could lose between 300$ and 1500$. Majority of new domainers don't make money but they lose money.

If you know about cars, you will probably make more money in your first 6 months if you just buy and sell used cars...

You need to learn a lot about domains so you get to the point you don't have to ask that question.

Tip: Most domainers lose money the first few months to a year before they get it. Some may break even or lose for an even longer time. Don't invest what you can't afford to lose.

The other posters are correct - it's a hard field to break into, and people usually dream of overnight success. To some extent you can learn by (costly) trial and error, but it helps to research. It's also virtually impossible to predict sales, even with decent names. You could wait months, even years, to get multiple offers, and many of those might not be in the ballpark you're trying to sell the name for.

I've had days where I had 4 offers come in (this week, actually, I don't expect THAT to happen again anytime soon!), and weeks where I've heard nothing. It takes a lot of work. But starting here gives you a leg up...ask lots of questions and read as much as you can! :)

You'd probably make as much as you would in the stock market.

Would take a lot longer to understand too.

Plus killer sales skills are a necessity, unlike in the stock market.
