How many of you actually actively market your domains to potential buyers / end users :? :$:

How many of you park them and wait for something to happen :? :)

How many of you do none of the above :? :'(

I just try to make as much money as i can with them which usually means developing a little and throwing up ads :) I don't make much of an effort to sell if they are bringing in revenue.

Most of the time I park the names. I know I will develop many of them but I don't have the time. I'm not in hurry to sell anyway. You don't have to wait for buyers. You can go straight to them. See the 'Domains wanted' sections on NP and other forums.

I don't do too much. I typically post them at Sedo, and the ones I have parked at Fabulous I list as for sale.

Occasionally I put a domain for sale ad in Craigslist.

I just buy and then sell and parked.

What I have always done is park them, but show them as for sale. If somebody is really interested in your domain, they will know how to contact you and most likely will.

I have never really marketed or advertised domains to potential end users.. Have you done this Wot? Have you been successful with it?

How would you go about marketing a domain to potential end users?

I don't actively do it much anymore, but I have in the past many times and had moderate success doing so.

It surprizes me that more domainers don't try selling names directly to the end users. Most top dollar domain sales are NOT made by selling to other domain resellers. Identify potential buyers who have a use or need for your name, and call or email them.

I too tend to be surprised that more domain owners do not try to contact potential end users.

There are multiple search tools to prise out the potential buyers once you have a few names then put together a suitable email/ letter/fax (emails tend to get deleted so a fax + letter may get noticed), individualize it for each name you are trying to promote. Tell them you will call later- do so!

Call after a reasonable time to follow up. ("Just following up on the letter/fax we sent on the blah blah--" :hi:

Try to find the name of the "decision maker" and send it to him / her , you will need to point out the reasons why "the name" would be beneficial to the company - don't assume they know about the value of domain names :!:

I am sure others can add to this, might even make it a sticky of some sort then NP's could monitor the feedback to see what does and does not achieve success. :$:

Good advice, wot. The problem with emails is its often a challenge to find out who you should be emailing, and if you email the wrong person it gets lost or ignored. ou're the first I've heard that has used faxes to approach end users. Sounds like a great idea for making a cold call into a warm call.

Here's a thread about finding end users from a few months back.
http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=97384

I like the idea of starting a thread or group that focuses on end user sales.

Me. :D Simply because right now I lack the time due to several ongoing development projects. My portofolio isn't anyway of the kind that is good for parking, but rather requires at least some basic development.

At first I did try the email approach but as you say, it rarely gets into the hands of the right person. It's time consuming too !

Now I usually just park or build a small site stating they are for sale.

I have as yet, never advertised to an end user. It is however something that I would like to look into. I am a salesman by trade and have experience in the area so it seems a shame for me not to.

I normally spend one afternoon a week E-mailing end users. Yesterday I contacted about 300 Ceramic Tile companies offering PoolCeramics.com

Last week I sent E-mails to 500 Plastic Surgeons offering SafeImplants.com

While it rarely brings results it acheives a few things.

First if an offer comes, you stand a good chance of extracting a good price because the buyer is not educated in domain values and can be convinced that your 'Short Catchy Domain' will bring traffic to his crappy site with his crappy 4 word .net or .biz URL.

The second benefit is that if you insert the link to your parking page it increases uniques and hits. Even when I don't get replies to my E-mails I usually get an increase in traffic.

Finally, if you send some E-mails out, at least you can say that you made the effort, and rewards will always come in the end to those that walk the extra mile.

If you owned a rental duplex would you leave it empty without advertising it?

Luck doesn't fall out of the sky.

You have to make your Luck.....

good domains for speculation purpose should be promoted and prospective end users. I try to do it

I try to market as many of them as I can, but time constraints and an ever growing list of things to do means that I get about 1/6 of them presented to my goal "end user". I always market my 3 letter .net/.org's, because I haven't had end-users come looking for them, it's always been other resellers looking for reseller deals.
