Just a question to the seasoned (and newbies) of those who sell domains via their own website.

We all know the major players to list domains from but have you OR do you have your own website with your own names that attract buyers?

I used to have it and I did sell one but with so many other projects going on I did not updated it the way it should have been. thinking of taking another stab at it with a few more things done better this time.

Want to see though with so many other avenues to sell your domain to see if it is worth it still to attract buyers to you OR to the "feel secure" listings of the big boys.

What is your track record with this?

Ok, now with that are you forwarding the domain back to your site where you sell it at? Or is it paked? I would assume it would be better to forward the domain to the actual listing on you site but could be wrong.

Also as I am an SEO provider I can make my site appear for its keywords but did you also do any SEO or marketing to it.

Just want to get enough vibes to get me back into it again ather then waiting for SEDO or the rest do it for me :)

hi

I have my own site, and put up another mini-site

but like you said, I get involved in side projects and don't update as often as one should.

* main site has been online since 2002 and has/had pr 4
* earns more than enough rev thru adsense to pay renewal and hosting fee's
* is ranked on first page of G for "hand picked premium domain names' long before bb and the others started skezzing my tagline (check wayback on www.urlpick.com)

I do get inquiries about names listed on the website, though majority of sales have originated thru sedo, phone or email contact.

sold two names so far this month and one buyer did tell me that they searched my website.
the minisite is 'domainsupermart.com'

imo...

I was checking your site out, has some errors. Starting on page 21, getting 404.

Was thinking of doing one of these types of sites, just haven't found the time yet. Still deciding what domain to put it on first, leaning to namegala right now.

Most of my domain sales came from people who typed my full domain name on their browsers, saw that it was already taken (by me), but realized it was for sale by reading my landing page with a contact email address in JPEG format.

A serious buyer would have to spend an effort to read my email address from the image, and write me a letter... something spammers would be too lazy to do.

No buyer has ever contacted me via my WHOIS email address. Only domainers contact me that way, trying to sell me their own stuff.

My domain sales via SEDO listing or Godaddy listing, is just 1%. Most of my legit end-user buyers do not even know SEDO or that Godaddy has auctions.

In my view, when an End-User wants a domain for their own use, they first try to think of a clever domain name for themselves in their spare time, then check out that domain name on the internet to see if it's already taken. They don't go out looking for domain "listings" and see what domains are for sale that they can pick up (although they would probably do that in the later stages, when they get exasperated that all the domains they can think of have already been snatched by domainers).

@Alien51...I think you are right. Most of my sales have come from diect type ins in where I had a contact form on it. I get 1 sale via Sedo per year and the same from Afternic....So what I may do is forward the domain to the actual sales page but at least they may see something else that cathches their eye. O I could build a quailty lander for each domain to. I always think about this stuff to long. LOL

Most of my sales have happened from my own site over the last 10 years. Have also made sales at Sedo, Moniker, GoDaddy, Whois Emails etc... but not really a fan of anonymous inquiries. If I don't forward straight to a sales page I make sure I use a parking company with a noticeable sales link at the top of the page like Internet Traffic, SmartName, TrafficZ etc... and I make sure that Zero Click crap is turned off on all of my accounts as most of my income over the years has come from sales and not parking and on Zero Click they won't even see your sales link.

Would say if you make your own site and have them forwarding there or the parked page sales links forwarding there still worth it to list them at GoDaddy and Sedo as well for extra publicity.

I sell through my own websites and list on Sedo, Afternic, and GoDaddy. I park my .com domains with a for sale link to an email offer page and I forward all my non .com domains to my websites. I've had one .com sale y-t-d via Sedo, Afternic, and my websites. I've sold 2-3 times that y-t-d (combined) via GoDaddy. I've never sold a non .com domain to an end-user. I keep meaning to forward all my non-revenue earning .coms to my websites, but it's quite a big project, and haven't got around to it yet. I only really started listing on Sedo, Afternic, GoDaddy over the last year. Before that all sales were via my websites, but sales through that channel have dried up over the last year.

I've had a few low offers via my site and a couple of sales - but it is new this year and I've not promoted it beyond my sig here. Majority of my sales are via Sedo and WHOIS, but also Afternic and GD.

I've listed a few on my websites although in the end they all still point to a third party (Sedo)..I have too many other things going on and don't mind answering an email if an end user contacts me, but other than that I would just prefer to handle everything directly through Sedo or Afternic. Give them a small piece for the Escrow services and know once the domain is gone and the money is received it's all done and over with.

@FPForum - few downside of selling through Domain markerplaces like SEDO, GD etc is you never get the visibility of who's buying? You can negotiate a better price if you the bio of prospect buyers.

Having an own site to sell domains has it's own advantages. You can offer a LEASE option, if you get to interact with prospects.

though some sellers do perform the extra research, when they feel like "jack'n the house".

for me...who the buyer is, is irrelevant to pricing, when you're adamant about amount you want for your domain name.

and lease options can be offered thru sedo and other venues, when ability to send messages is enabled, for communication between parties.

imo...

Yeah that makes sense. Not sure of the leasing part though.
Legalities need be addressed carefully in case of a Lease Agreement, that's something where Marketplaces (Sedo, GD) won't intervene.

that's also something you don't want sedo or gd, "intervening" in.

as a lease contract should be "tailored" for the specific domain name that's being leased.

to include such variables as, duration, schedule of payments, late fee's, interest, etc, etc.
