I have 40 domains almost all godaddy closeout and few purchased from namepros, how many domains should be in your portfolio to start a full time domain business and can easily sold monthly 1 domain to enduser.?
I am new in domain so need your suggestion!

Thank you.

My goal is to have about 125 domains at any one time, but I am currently above that at about 225 domains.

As a risk averse senior on a pension, I never plan to risk much with acquisition of high value domains or ones with premium renewal rates. I realize that means most of my sales will be in the $$ to $$$ range and I am fine with that. My aim is to sell each domain for at least 4x (hopefully more!) my acquisition/holding cost, and portfolio overall at least break even (hopefully a bit better than that). Ideally I aim to sell at least 10 to 15% of my portfolio per year. I am currently on track with these goals.

My portfolio is mainly in a number of new extensions (space, site, science, icu, top, trade, review, and gdn, and smaller numbers of others), along with 12 .ca, 6 .com, and about 20 in other cc's (mainly co, some pw and me).

I guess my icon should be a piggy bank? :xf.wink:

I admire those of you who are into higher risk / much higher return portfolios, and have the ability to close those big $$$$ to $$$$$$ or more sales, but that is not me at this stage in life. I do understand that if you are to have any hope of making a living at domaining you need a significantly sized portfolio of high quality, moderately expensive domain names.

It's just a side business for me and for most of the time I only had up to 10 at one time and were selling only 1 every 1-3 months, with outbounding mostly. But I registered quite some in the last 2 months - should have around 40 or so now. That's also why I came to Namepros, getting too much without such help. Not planning on registering way more though, maybe in some months when the crypto market is back up. ;-D Until then I just go with ones that

@MetBob 125 is a good number in my opinion. I have debated a lot lately just downsizing to maybe like 20-25 higher end domain names lately, but haven't moved that direction yet. I have too much fun trying to flip cheap expiring domains for 10-50x lol.

$50 to $250 is my acquisition cost, about $500+ is my end user prices. I have luck with one word .COM, .NET, and .ORG's
Are you willing to share source of those acquisitions? Auctions here, GD closeouts, other marketplaces, something else?

Do you get regular offers on those closeout names ? Is it safe to say it might be a numbers game in this case especially ?

Currently running around 200 names, 50/50 .com and .co.uk. I have drastically reduced my portfolio from last year, focusing only on quality names.

IMHO, It's about BOTH. Without both quality and quantity is just nothing considering if someone looking to be doing domaining as full time.

I have over 1400 .com domain names listed with Godaddy. My domains are focused are three high growth industry categories including cannabis, artificial intelligence, and travel.
My strategy has been to find a .com brand name and secure as many related domains as I can think of in support of those brand names.
It would be nice to find a legit sales agent who would take the time to contact potential buyers directly to help sell these domains.
