How long does it take an end user to make a buying decision? I contacted a few and one asked how much a few minutes after I emailed him; infact his reply was very short--"how much?" and I quoted my price but since I told him my price, he has not replied. It's been over 15 hours now and I still have not gotten a reply from him. Should I email him or move on? I just want to know what could be wrong or what he could be thinking but I don't want to seem desperate while doing that.

Its my first time at this and I need help.

Each end user is different. Many "how much" responses are just tire kickers more than actual buyers.

Your asking price is probably more than the buyer is willing to pay.

Not receiving an answer is usually an implied "No".

It is all a numbers game - you need to contact quite a number of people, of which a small number will ask "how much"; of those a few may be willing to make an offer, and of those hopefully at least one will be willing to buy.

It is all down to the quality of your name in the first place - as Brad says, no further answer usually means not interested.

Don't waste time chasing - simply move on to promoting the next name. Remember you won't sell every one - you would be superhuman to do so. Also remember that the vast majority of domainers only sell a very small percentage of their portfolio each year - maybe up to 5% if you are good.

Not selling a name today does not necessarily mean that you wont sell it tomorrow IF the name is good enough - I have had many occasions where a name later sold when I had had no response previously.

Thanks Brad and David. The name is one I have in my sig.

Though it is currently listed at sedo for sale, even at a higher price than I would give the end user in question but it would take about 3 months for the auction to end. I guess I should just wait till the sale come through sedo.

In my experience: when I send emails to end users, whenever an end user has replied 'how much' and I send them an amount... if they don't reply within a few minutes or hours, then they have never, ever responded later on (days, weeks).

If a buyer contacts me first, and I tell them how much, they usually (but not always) respond with an affirmative, a counter offer, or a no thanks.

I think this is a safe guideline:
1 - a very small percentage of end users ever respond to your emails. Maybe one response out of every 20 - 50 emails.
2 - when you get a 'how much' response from one of them, half the time it's just curiosity and they have no intent to buy... unless you were to toss out a very cheap buying price like $25 - 50.
3 - if an end user is sincerely interested in buying, generally they will respond fast and with energetic negotiating; other slower tactics are used sometimes, but most often negotiations are brisk. If your price is too far apart from theirs and they finally get the idea you're not going to sell in their price range, suddenly you won't ever hear from them again, even if you email them later with a much lower price.

In my experience ;)

Thank you, Bannen. Well, what can I say here? I am learning. Kindly take a look at the domain names in my sig, do you think its not worth anything?
