Hello,

I have this buyer who asked for how much I want for my domain after I contacted him.

His reply was just that question. Straight to the point.

I gave my price but not my final price, negotiable and other details regarding transfer.

He hasn't replied yet.

How do you normaly handle cases like this and eventually sealing the deal? I am waiting till Monday before I would send him another email. But how do I bring him to negotiate without being desperate?

From experience, when someone replies "How much do you for the domain?" they seem like they are willing right? This gives a 50% possibility of sealing the deal?

Please share.

There are 2 possibilties to this situation.

One could be that buyer is interested in the name and probably looking for a steal of a price. If he gets the quote within his expected range, he would definitely jump at it within minutes of receiving your mail. Or else,

Second could be he hasnt read your email because 70% people do not browse internet everyday or check their emails religiously everyday.

So all in all give the buyer some time to respond while making sure of to use email tracker next time yoi send out end user mails. This will give you upper hand on te information like whether email was ever opened by the buyer etc..

Good luck!

you send him another email = desperate
he either wants the name or he doesnt, many people are brain fart people they have these amazing ideas, run to find a domain then they realize their idea is junk, leaving domainers wondering where these people went.

if you cant help it and you must send that email do it the right way and now the scared way. Email him

Please paypal XXXXX to complete this domain purchase, my paypal address is, my phone number is

AEProgram, there is a high chance that he wants the name because it's similar to what he is currently using but more explanatory that his own.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have asked how much I want for the name. It's been over 3 days since I replied his message but I will wait till monday.

The thing is we could negotiate if he is willing but these end users who claim to be business men as sometimes very funny and unpredictably acting like a woman lol.

Let's see what will happen by Monday.

I already closed a $400 on another domain anyway but just haven't replied to acknowledge my acceptance.

This is very normal in domaining .

Please wait for a week. Don't rush. it will cut your $$.

you have to be very patient. do more research about buyer(with his details like email, company, phone etc.,)

contact them after a week and get their interest first, before negotiate anything.

Goodluck :)

Hi guys,

I have a similar question however i was contacted by the potential buyer asking to buy one of my domains. Very short and and to the point but by his subsequent emails, it appears he might have been driving and emailing :).
The buyer used his real name and his gmail account was [email protected] so research was very easy. Had enough on him in about 5 mins as his name was unique and his email address verified his ID (had his own website/twitter etc etc). From the research i have done, the guy has developed at least 1 successful online businesses which later got bought out by a company with an alexa rank of 6,500, so a reasonable size company at this stage. Most of google searches turned up info on his last company and the acquisition itself.

He asked whether it was for sale and i replied stating it was, thanked him for his interest and asked what he would be willing to offer. His first offer was $65 USD which given the quality of the name i am not too surprised about, but i did expect it to be around $120. The name is drop (ski)/com and was picked up from the available list and rego'd for a few dollars.
So i replied politely to his offer, thanked him and said that i would be looking at around $4k but am willing to negotiate. That was 3 days ago and haven't heard anything from him since. The first few emails all happened within a space of 90 mins.
My strategy is to wait it out for about a month and contact him again asking whether he is still interested but am not sure whether to drop the price there and then or wait for the follow up. How would you guys approach this?
PS: I am in no rush to sell anything as i don't rely on this income but my 2 to 5 year strategy is to upgrade the inventory from brandables/deleted/hand reg etc etc to good 4 LLLL and eventually 3 LLL domains.

@jideofor How many days ago he replied you?
Considering it's weekend, i would wait for more days. If he didn't reply in the meantime, I'd contact him again on next thursday or, maybe better, in 2 weeks, kindly asking him to share with you his thoughts about the domain and the price you previously gave him.

@Trader247 it looks like you lost a chance giving him a price tag so high. But, who knows.

If you would expect a $120 offer then you shouldn't have went over 6100% higher than his original offer when you countered. Highest I could see countering $65 with would be about $500 and let it be negotiated from there. I could be wrong but anything higher than that I personally wouldn't have replied back to you either.

I like what you said about not being in a rush to sell and not relying on this income though because that plays a huge part in whats being spoken about right now in the drone thread and is also why I refuse to list low BIN prices. Nothing wrong with waiting out for the price that makes you happy if your renewal fees aren't affecting you whatsoever.

"What To Do If Buyer Does Not Reply To Your Price After Asking For It?"

Leave him alone.

Sometimes they come back after months... sometimes they don't.

hopefully he doesnt act like some women or you will sell it for 500 but somehow it will end up costing you 80,000

Who knows really. However, I have the benefit of knowing who the buyer is and its not a small name and the fact he made the initial contact my thinking was that if i could start high i'd be happy to negotiate lower. But you are correct, there is a chance i might scare him off and probably did as the name is not generic, rather brandable, so if he's hunting for a name for one of his projects he's probably already moved on. Thats the beauty of this game, a little adventure with every domain! Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for your reply matrigaldo - time will tell.
My objective was to throw a high number to see if it sticks purely coz of this guys background and potential budget.

To me it's a simple strategy... If he contacts you first, then wait on him and let him pursue you... He either wants the name or not ( you can't sell him on it) ... However, if you contacted him initially then you pursue him, let him know you want to sell... Everyone likes a desk, etc

At the end of the day, it's not about ego or who won, etc its about both parties thinking they got a good deal.

Trader247, you can't be sure because he contacted you and that means he will go through with the deal.

I had similar occurence a few months ago when someone contacted me for a brandable I own and enquired whether it's for sale because it looked to him a name that can easily be memorised, which is through.

I thanked him for contacting me and stated that I had wanted to run a business on the name for same reasons he want it for and that I will only consider to sell if his offer is good enough--my exact words and I ask how much did he want to pay for the domain name. I haven't heard from him ever since despite contacting him several times.

Maybe he is waiting for it to drop which I will never let happen cos I hate when you play with someones emotion and time. I will rather sell the name to another person via auction soon no matter the price or how low.

But your case is a bit different. He made an offer.

it's common for people to not contact you anymore after they hear your price. Especially after you 'cold called' him/her.

Some people are just curious what 'those darn domain people want for their name"

And yes it show desperation to write them back.

But you might be desperate. So don't rule out writing them back

Goodluck

I've once emailed a guy regarding my first name last initial .COM and then never heard back from him, about 2 years later I received a message "Hey sorry for the late response are you still interested?" so I messaged him back with a more than decent offer and just never heard back from him again. I'll update this in 2 years if that's his waiting gap.

Absolutely agree. I have had 5 inbound enquiries in the past 4 months which went nowhere. My point was that when someone with deep pockets comes after one of your domains then it could be one of those once in a blue moon sales. Not that this was a a high end domain, not at all. Guess a hail mary would be the best way to describe the strategy. :)

For non-replyers, I would send 2 reminders, 1 after 1 week, and a 2nd after another week. I would never reduced my price voluntarily without prodding from the potential client. In the 2nd email, I would state that you will never hear from you again about that domain. You might, in the first email state that you are still willing to negotiate.

In the future, consider including an expiration date with your quotes.

"This quote is valid for X days after the date of this message."

If they do not respond within that time, consider it dead and walk away.

If they came back at future date and want to continue, approach it as a new negotiation. You can stand by your original number or change it as you see fit.
