Hey ya all. Just got an email from someone that says he's interested in one of my domains. He's says he's a domain investor. He asked me for my asking price....I emailed him back and told him i am considering any reasonable offers. I told him to email me back with his offer and i'd get back to him. Was that ok? How can i make sure i get the best price for my domain? Also...if I do a deal make the transaction through paypal is that safe?

Well,

I got that kind of emails all the time.

My take is I'm not dealing with an unknown person. There are hundred if not thousand places out there that you can trust and do business with.

John,

Hey,

I always use contracts when dealing with X amount of money that i consider to be alot. If your only dealing with anything that won't break you then the contract won't be needed.

hestheman - be very careful with this. The next step will be that he will request an appraisal from one of a number of companies which will then have to be paid for by you. search the forum here for scams involving fastdomainsales such as the thread below

http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14204

Make sure you do not part with any money for an appraisal. If he insists he is genuine then ask him to transfer the money into an escrow service and that you will not deal with him any other way until he does. Make sure that you pick the escrow service.

Be very careful - this looks as if it is on the increase again.

Here is how the rest of it will probably pan out:

The guy will say he doesn't want to deal with third party brokers and that he wants an appraisal by a third party company that is reputable. He will list three, and one of those, will be the lowest price.

It's a scam, avoid it if described as above.

This same jerk is doing this with several different email addys. When I get an email of interest on my domains, I reply with:

"Dear xyz,
If you are going to reply stating that you do not want to deal with a broker and need a third party appraisal, don't waste my time or yours. Many people are learning of your scam. If you are not this jerk, my domain is available at xxx.com for sale."

Yeah...i'm on to that scam already.....thanks to threads i've already read in the past on namepros. The company goes by several different websites one of which is everydayincome.com. I've never received an email from them as of yet (unless this is one) in which case i won't fall for it for sure. I'm not sure if this guy is with that company/scam though yet. he did'nt mention anything in his email about any appraisals though. He said he did a keyword search and found that my name was for sale and wanted to know if it was still for sale. he just wanted an asking price and wanted to know if i had a paypal account.

Paypal is not the safest method to conduct domain transactions because you pay have little proof that you delivered a domain or the buyer could be using a fraudulent paypal account. Escrow.com is generally a better option, or sedo's escrow if the dollar amount warrents it.

Replying back asking for reasonable offers is an ok move. I'm under the opinion that whoever makes the initial contact to the other party should be the one introducing a price to the negotiations.

Good luck, hope it's a legit buyer!
