How important is it for keywords to be in the URL?

The reason I ask is I'm currently using drupal to develope http://cute-butt.com and I can't get the URL to display the name of the image galleries. It just has some cryptic sort of lingo. Is it fairly critical in terms of SEO to get the the galleries name in the URL, in this case "mens-butts" and "womens-butts"?

I'm really focusing on the SEO as I build this site, so any input would be greatly appreciated.

It absolutely helps. It's not a deal-breaker (you can succeed without it, of course) but it's another + if you've got it.

Important if you want to take advantage of the keywords in the domain name.

Not important if you are capable of branding a domain name and market it.

From my experience looking at the top 30 for most keyword phrases, I haven't seen much that is does make a difference.

I would say that keywords in your domain will help your ranking but it is not essential. Think of godaddy, they are in one of the top rakings for domains but dont have that keyword in there domain..

Well u need it to be relavent and searchable and also memorable. If you do that, you'll get more sucess!

It helps you to get a keyword density in your pages. Its not a key factor but still in SEO battle grounds every little thing counts.

Well, it's really help, I give you tip, but I will charge you for that ;)

just create sub domain with important keywords,
take help from keyword selector tool, http://www.absofts.com/mlm.asp
dont use restricted keyword in your title as well, like, ::-, !|_'%*
it will really work.
best of luck

I would have to say also that having a relevant keyword on your domain is essential. your domain should say a lot on your niche specially if your site is just new on the net :)

I would have to say that key words in your url are important more than for just rankings but also the amount of pages indexed. Namepros uses vbseo DNF does not. Do a site query in google for both these domains. eg. site:http://www.namepros.com 309 000 results; same query for DNF results in 195 000 results. DNF does not use sef or search engine friendly urls.

Hope that helps,
Christian

keywords in domain name do help a lot and makes ranking high for that keyword comparatively easy. For a non-competitive keywords, using keywords in domain itself may be enough for high ranking.

However for competitive keywords it may only be one of the many factors and that goes in you favor.

Keyword.

If keyword is not relevant like in godaddy.com what makes godady.com ranks good on search engine?

YouTube registered for $6.95, sold for Billions. Pay alot now for a keyword url or make alot later branding something not important imho.

I'm curious which is better for seo?
mydomain(dot)com/keyword(dot)html
keyword(dot)mydomain(dot)com/index(dot)html

Assuming "mydomain" isn't relevant at all.

First one would be good.

Plus friend, also start a new thread for your own questions.
