Excuse my ignorance but how do you tell if it's an 0 or an O in a DN for sale????

That 's a zero compared to the letter o ...........So if I'm selling 0TR hoping people think it's OTR .. How do you know the difference upon looking?

I recently fell in the group with a large number of purchasers making the mistake of thinking the number 0 was the letter O

If you can't tell, do the transaction by escrow, and do a whois check on both of them afterwards (during your evaluation period). Alternatively, change the nameservers on the name, then, proceed to type them in and you'll know which one is yours and which isn't :)

Copy paste onto like a word doc and compare them?

copy and paste the name, then leave put an L-o on one side and then a 0-N on the other, that will help smoke it out.

0ne

L-o ~ "o"ne ~ 0-N

But it's also a good thing to ask.

How can you change the Name Servers during the evaluation period if you don't have control? Maybe I don't know about the eval period.. Is this the grace period?

Just look at how much you've been offered for it. If it has a 0 in it, that's probably how much you'll be offered ;)

(Not much help am I :) )

If you suspect a foul play, I'd run a whois check on the name containing the "0" (zero) and if I found out that it was in fact registered, I'd then very carefully choose my next step in finding out the seller's true identity and intentions.
If I were the seller, I'd probably use lower case for the letters: 0tr.com, as opposed to 0TR.COM
Hope this helps!

Highlight and Copy the name from the offering. (Put your cursor at one end of the name, press and hold the left mouse button while you move the cursor over the name, causing it to have a colored background, release the mouse button when the name is all colored, then press ctrl and the letter "C" at the same time)

On your computer go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad (your path may differ)

Paste the name into Notepad. (Press ctrl and the letter "V" at the same time.) Then move down a line or two and type the letter O and the Number 0 . The difference in Notepad is very obvious.

Sedo just pulled an auction for 1RAQ.com (with the number 1) for the same reason. Other things to watch for are IDN letters (those little accents, dots, and marks), vv for w and rn (RN) for m.

As soon as you figure something out, another comes along.

This assumes that the name is honestly listed in the first place, a subject for Escrow.com.

- appearance ... "O" (letter) is more round and wider than "0" number ...

- price - the "O" (letter) ones are usually way more expensive because they are a genuine word ...

- copy and paste to Windows Notepad or Microsoft Word (with word doc lzy meant a word document) and then ...

either type a "0" (number) or "O" (letter) next to the suspected character and compare ... or ... format the word and change it to a font that the difference is more obvious (like Arial , Comic or Verdana)

If it is in text,

My way:
using firefox, just use the search function:
/ ( follow'ed by whatever thing you want to search for. eg: ) foobar.com

(see if it is high'lighted)

:)

Not only for 0 and o, but also for vvvvvv and www

No, it depends on the font.

Just like "I" and "l" can look identical in poor fonts.
