Do you buy a DN if it has a certain # of backlinks?

Do you buy the DN if it has 100 yahoo links?
Do you buy it just for the name and not look at the backlinks?
Or do you do a combination of the 2?
If you do buy the name with backlinks----Is there a certain # of backlinks you look for?

be careful...the quality of the backlinks can make a difference. If they are genuine backlinks to a website, then fine, but if they are backlinks primarily generated by the domain owner boosting his site, then not so good quality. Is there a tool for searching out where the backlinks come from? that would be useful. keep your focus on the quality of the name itself. My guess is that search engines such as google make an evaluation of the popularity of the originating backlink sites and not just the number.

google no doubt use an algorithm (which they are not going to tell you), but there are certain first principles one can work from:
eg if you have a website selling cars, then backlinks from other car websites is going to have more value than say a signature link from namepros IMHO.

At drops I buy primarily by the name - but I always check before to see if it has incoming links, age, PR or overture with ext.

If it has a few thousand links they I would generally be willing to bid a little more.

One recent name I got only had 17 incoming links but its made $8 in the last two months - not alot but nice all the same. I would have still bought it without any links.

Another one I have has 9,617 incoming links and has made less than $1 in 6 months !
