How do I sell a DN within 60 days of registering it? (When it can't be moved...)

From my research, it seems that:
  1. a DN can't be transferred to a different registrar within the first 60 days after registration, BUT
  2. It CAN be moved to a different account with the same registrar...e.g. if both buyer and seller have a GoDaddy account.

Right?

So my question is simply this: if I have DNs for sale, via Sedo let's say, how do I indicate to prospective buyers: "hey, this DN is indeed for sale, but you should know that it's locked up at my registrar for another X days, so I can't just push it to your preferred registrar".

As far as I know, Sedo doesn't really let you "indicate" that anywhere...it just processes the sale, and expects you to push the DN to the buyer...

So what should I do? Is there anywhere to indicate that to prospective buyers? Should I just say nothing, and then when the sale goes through tell them "oh, one more thing, you're going to need an account at this registrar if you want the DN"...?

It's not too complicated. Just tell them which Registrar it's regged at, and if they have or open an account there, then you can push it to them. As it's free to open an account at any registrar, most won't have a problem with it. If it is 'a problem', well they probably won't end up paying for the domain anyways.

Right. You would push the domain to the buyer's account.

Thx.

But is that "bad form"...like, to not tell them "hey, you're gonna be stuck with my registrar for at least X more days"...?

For people who like consolidating their DNs under just 1 or 2 registrars, that seems like it would be a pain.

Would the sale still be considered "final" even if I "sprung" that surprise on them after payment? (or am i making this all out to be a bigger deal than it is...i've never actually sold one yet, so maybe this is all small potatoes to buyers.)

I normally indicate "Godaddy Push ONLY" in the description / presentation area so that there's no surprises. It's short, sweet, and to the point. For those familiar with domaining it's crystal clear why it's a push and to the 1st time buyer it's a fall back reference we can expand on further to assist in their domain education as well as a protective disclaimer.

There may or may not be any issues, however it's normally best to keep all your T's crossed and i's dotted just in case you find yourself in a situation where a simple disclaimer such as "Godaddy Push Only" saves you from a headache situation of a buyer claiming false advertising, misinformation, failure to disclose important facts, etc..

In short, let people know up front somehow without using to many negative words. Locked, Unavailable, Temporarily, Have to wait, Pending, Etc.. are negative words / phrases that will add hesitation from a first time buyer, so avoid them at all costs and keep your disclaimer short and simple. Tell the truth to protect yourself, but don't divulge more than you have to.

That's just my opinion anyways amongst millions of others. :)

No..it isn't "bad form" really.

People understand that domains can't be transferred once there is less than 60 Days on it and that is usually fine with people. They will make an account and renew the name. Then, get in transfer it out of there in another 60 days.

It does make more work for people and if you're trying to sell it in a reseller market like here on Namepros then it could make a difference. Some people may not bid because they don't wanna have to go to a new registrar and make an account... However, any end user or person who really wanted the name would probably have no problem going and signing up at the registrar.

I've got accounts pretty much everywhere, and I'll make a new one if I have to. The only exception is 1and1, I refuse to make an account there and I've skipped bidding on names because the domain was registered at 1and1.
