Hi all,

Need to be educated in recognizing if a domain is worth getting and developing and flipping. I have recently bought a few domains and they may look good and useful but was told they can only fletch reg fees. How can I tell if the domain I am getting is worth buying and flipping?

I don't wanna get domains which just sit there and collect digital dust...Please educate me...thanks!

if you wanna sell domains to end users then buy domains that end users would want, generic keyword .com domains that describe generic products and services that show search volume with the google adwords tool and that show multiple end users advertising when you google the term, if an advertiser is already paying per click for that form of traffic then it is an easier sell when you hold the .com of the exact term they are bidding on

I am doing research using Google Keyword tools and one thing I realize is that there is a difference between "Phrase" and [Exact]....Which is more accurate in terms of finding a niche which i can get domains for?

Absolutely right! Google Keyword is a great tool. You may notice that most of the highly searched keywords you find, have been registered. That tells you that domain registration has a lot to do with what the internet users want.

the best tool is to use namejet or snapnames. If there are more than dozen people bidding on the domain, then there is no doubt that domain is worth more than reg fee. Once you have watched this for a while, you will get the idea.

This industry is not as simple as just coming in and registering domain names. Its not as simple as following any particular formula. There are many domainers out there that have found niches and ways of doing things that work for them.

However, before any of them became any good at what they do, they learned to value domain names. They understood certain metrics and mechanics that exist that may make a domain name valuable. Some of those metrics are keyword based, some are not. Is the domain catchy certainly works in many cases.

A simple question usually can tell you if a domain name is worthy. If you were in the buyers position, would you buy this domain name?

Sub questions to follow: Why? Is there better out there? Is this a good investment for my money? Does this domain name brand well, is it confusing? Will it cause trademark concerns? Will it help me in the long run?

When I buy a domain name (and I usually do from the Aftermarket Expired domains), I look at who could possibly want this domain name, why, and for whats available, where does it rank.

And one more tip for a beginner. Stick with .com

You can always add other and exotic TLD's to your portfolio, but until you understand them, only buy .com

Another tip. Dont be mislead by automatic appraisals. Many of the sites out there will give you a false sense of value. A domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it at that moment in time.
