How can WHOIS help me sell my domains?

I've read some good points that suggest not using the Privacy option in your WHOIS listing can make selling your domains easier. I'm assuming because it makes it easier to contact you.

I'd love for people to share their experiences with WHOIS and selling and I also have a couple specific questions.

- Do I have to provide address & phone information or can I just use my name & email?

- If I must provide my address. Is a POBOX my only alternative for privacy?

- If I have to include my phone number, I'd like to get a seperate unlisted number or voicemail service. I've tried looking at local carriers for bare bones vmail services but have had no luck, what do you do? Where should I look?

It makes sense for me to make myself available to endusers or domainers that seek out my specific domain but I want to avoid sharing my home address & number, while NOT forking out alot of cash each month for a 2nd phone line & PO.Box.

What should / can I do and why?

Please and thank you !!!

why would you use private who is? if your selling the domain name?

if your not going to use your real address, then you can face problems in the near future if someone files complaint.

Get a PO Box & a Grand Central number (not available currently as it's switching to google voice, but look for something similar I have a GC number that automatically forwards to my cell & use it for domaining contacts) but these two services make it much easier to protect your information and also be easily contacted.

K7.net for free phone number and voicemail (it actually works beautifully- sends a .wav of the voice message to your email box).
PO Box for addy.
Dedicated email for domains.

I don't trust my privacy to some $11.00 hourly employee at godaddy.

The catch to the K7 is that you have to receive at least one message a month to keep the account active, so either make sure to call it yourself once per month, or actually use it with friends and family.

I use a PO Box and a VOIP number that goes straight to voicemail. A service like Magic Jack might work great for this. That way if you have to call the buyer, the number on the caller ID is the one you have listed in the whois information.

This is great guys! Exactly what I was looking for.

Since I'm still in the learning zone, I think I'll wait for Google Voice to get going.

That should also be about the time I begin seeing some development (minisite) income on the horizon, so I won't feel bad about the P.O Box expense.

For bonus points - Can anyone tell me a story or a situation where they sold a domain only because they were contacted from WHOIS?

(There are no bonus points. I was lying)

Thanks !!!
